At least once every two weeks if they want to attract Johnny Football Hero.
It is worth remarking that forming lather is an aspect of cleaning, but not similar to it. Some detergents clean fantastically, but they hardly form any pretty white foam. So they don’t lather.
The most used detergent, sodium laureth sulfate, has two major advantages. One, it is dirt cheap; tw, it works up a beautiful lather. It also has a disadvantage, in that it is too agressive.
I have seen ads for cleansing conditioners which don’t foam at all. If they weren’t so expensive I would try one.
For example http://chazdean.com/c-2-cleanse.aspx?gclid=CI6Oivn7jbUCFSOnPAodjFEA3A
I was intrigued by the wen commercials and kept my eye out for someone else’s version; I got L’Oreal Evercreme which says “Sulfate free moisture system”. But then it contains Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate and how different is that from SLS? It does leave my hair soft and smooth.
manojr, I’ve had luck with Neutrogena Anti-residue Shampoo cleaning out all the styling products in one wash. Just don’t use it too regularly because it does strip off everything – literally squeaky clean.
The commercials for that stuff don’t even make it look like hair gets clean. Yuck.
Thanks for the tip, I will give it a try if it is available in local market in Mumbai. I am ok for repeat because I am never in hurry to bath. What I am actually missing is a ‘shampoo plus conditioner’ which Garnier were selling earlier but not any more
That’s the scam, they make you think with the foam and suds that you can’t get clean without LOTS of both. This is why they add SLS to toothpaste, where is is actualy harmful to oral health.
“Skip a day”? You mean you shampoo your hair every day??
Just checked the four bottles we have (apparently my wife and the girls each use a different brand). One says to repeat if you have time; the other three don’t mention repeating.
Truer words never spoken. I went to the store to buy the cheapest bottle of shampoo and was amazed at the variations between the various combinations of shaving cream, body wash, face wash, and hair wash products. For me, my shampoo has always been my face wash, since It’s in the same vicinity. I was actually curious about the combo that added shaving cream. I would have bought some to try if my wife hadn’t just picked up 3 or 4 cans of shaving cream through coupons. I won’t need shaving cream again for a long long time.
But it is ridiculously easy to keep your head out of the shower stream to let it sit.
Not seeing that, but the instructions seem to be to use 40 pumps of the stuff per wash, minimum. 10 pumps per section of hair. If you have thick or long or troublesome hair, use more.
I use dandruff shampoo 2-in-1. If I don’t, my scalp gets itchy. Yes, every day.
I shampoo daily, sometimes I skip one day, but my scalp is so naturally greasy that not washing it that much will render my hair limp, stringy, and dirty looking.
In case anyone else was confused about the sodium lauryl sulfate in toothpaste, I found a little on that here.
The long and short of it seems to be that some people may be sensitive to sodium lauryl sulfate around the face and eyes and that it may be linked to canker sores. It also depresses sweet taste for a few minutes after brushing. I’m not going to throw out my normal toothpaste but if I ever see some non-SLS brand, that still contains fluoride, and for the same price, then I’ll consider it.
Mine isn’t supergreasy but it’s smushed and icky from sleeping in it and I don’t feel clean without shampooing every day except the occasional Saturday when I veg and don’t leave the house. Even then I usually give in by late afternoon and have to wash!
Ivory soap. For hair and body. Lather, rinse and repeat.
Smells nice too.
Do you use the Ivory bar soap on your hair, or is it an Ivory shampoo? The dandruff shampoo that I use is fairly harsh, but effective, and it says to use it twice a week, so I’m looking for a shampoo that’s gentle for the other five days. Prell has changed its formula and I’m no longer happy with it.
There are several very nice bar soaps in the health-food store that are designed as shampoos.
Shampoo the hair every day when I’m working, not on weekends.
Shower Gel for the body, all over wash every day at least.
The two aren’t interchangeable, I’ve tried before when one is empty and I forgot to get more. Just doesn’t work properly.
- Put the lotion on its skin.
I shower and shampoo every morning as OCD demands it and I don’t feel clean or right all day after. Interestingly, if camping or something, the second day of not bathing is easier than the first. Also practically, I sweat like a pig when I sleep and have naturally greasy hair. If I don’t shampoo I get forehead acne/rash. It might calm down if I never washed, but the lead up to that point isn’t fun.
I do repeat because I find that the first wash usually cleans the scalp but the second gets the stuff out of my hair. My current shampoo is 2-in-1 that cost $4.76. I wash my hair twice a day and have had the same bottle for 4 months. I guess I’m not too worried about that 2 cents per day.
