Continuing the hypothetical from this thread by Skald the Rhymer but with higher stakes.
You find a gym bag in an alley one night and looking inside you find that it’s stuffed with crisp hundred dollar bills, all neatly packaged in those paper bank slip thingies. Amazed by your windfall you snatch the bag and hurry home. On the news that evening you see a report about a huge drug deal gone wrong near where you found the money. You put two and two together.
So:
1.) You’re pretty sure that this bag was probably one of several taken by fleeing criminals and left behind for some reason. The police might know about the missing money and if so they’re certainly looking for it.
2.) You know (somehow) that the bills are real. Further, you know (somehow) that they aren’t marked.
A hundred grand, while no small amount, isn’t much compared to a million. How would you go about laundering this? People in Skald’s thread mentioned using casinos. Obviously you’d probably want to do it little by little (going to the casino with a thousand dollars and claiming to leave with ten thousand, etc) over a period of time. The problem in my case is that I’m not a gambler and I’ve never been to a casino before. But after this money goes missing I develop an interest in gambling and over the next year I make several trips, and on each trip I come out on top by thousands of dollars? Seems slippery to me.
