True or legendary: When the show “Laverne and Shirley” was syndicated in Thailand, the TV censors just couldn’t fathom women who made jokes and talked back to men. So it was preceded by a disclaimer that said “these women just escaped from a mental institution.” Sounds like an urban legend to me.
I got news for you: Thailand is much more open and westernised than you think and more so than any other country in the region.

Maybe the disclaimer is true, but the reason behind it is not?
Gary Marshall, who co-created and executive produced the series (Penny Marshall is his sister), has told this story on talk shows. Still could be an urban legend, but Snopes doesn’t have anything on it.
