I didn’t know about that at all! I thought the episode was riffing on Mattie Stepanek, the Heartsongs kid (whose existence, of course, has never been in doubt).

Oh, man…somehow, though I go to Crime Library a lot, I never read that article before. Even though I read about this sort of stuff all the time, that story still made me cry. Shanda would be almost exactly the same age as me if she were still here, and I could just imagine my mother falling to the ground in hysterical tears if that had happened to me. And seeing some of those girls smiling in their mugshots…brrr.

SVU did an episode based on the BTK killer. Different initials but much else was the same: letters taunting the police, surfacing again after years of silence, etc.
I read it one day when I was bored and preggers.
