Law and Order SVU 9/20

LOL

No, Stabler didn’t give him the keys until after he had the girl. When Stabler came out of his extra meeting with the therapist, he said he was suprised to see the rapist still there, thinking he would go home rather than wait for him, since he was past curfew. Then the rapist demanded the keys and showed him the girl. I guess the van’s back doors weren’t locked (or, being such an old POS, they couldn’t lock.)

This is why, for me, it seems that the rapist would have raped again without Stabler. Sure, Stabler gave hima van to stuff the girl into, but if he didn’t have Stabler’s, he could easily have gotten a used van elsewhere on his own, or just dragged the girl to a back alley.

As to why he didn’t snatch the plant, I figure he knew it was dumb to snarch someone in braod daylight. Also, he snuck up behind her and was right there for several seconds, visible to her in the window, yet she did not react. Most people would be uncomfortable knowing a creppy guy was right behind them staring at their reflection in the window. So he might have thought she was a plant, or just not the type of girl he wanted (I mean, he apparantly likes it when they scream, so if this girl seems into him, what’s the point, right?) But odds are it was just because it was a busy street in the middle of the day.

That meshes with my memory. Also, Eliot remarks that the rapist picked the lock on the back of the van.

I’d say the latter. Had he known she was a plant, he would have immediately realized that Eliot had to be in on it; and from his monologue when he had Our Favorite Near-Psychopathic Detective all bound, it’s clear he hadn’t realized that Eliot was a cop till the overt betrayal.

By the way, am I alone in this, or

did anyone else fear briefly that, when the prospective victim had escaped and the rapist had captured and incapacitated OFNPD, Eliot might wake up with a dick in his ass?

I was very glad to be wrong. I’ve feared since the show began that they’ll go with the cop show cliche of the female detective being raped (especially since Olivia is so hot), and this would have been too close. Also it would have taken away from the true focus of the episode: Eliot’s tightly-restrained violence.

Speaking of alcoholism: am I remembering aright that Captain Cragen himself is a former alcoholic? I thought of that when he made that exact same comparison to Benson in the squad room, whenhe was having moral qualms about their course of action.

So is my memory right, folks?

Yes - in his detective days - it’s come up in a lot of episodes

I think that the only time lock-picking was explicitly mentioned, it was in reference to how they gained entry to the rapist’s uncle’s warehouse.

A good episode, anyway. I really wanted Robert Patrick’s character to be honestly reformed. (Or struggling really hard to keep himself reigned in, at least.)

As a story, though, it was much better for him to turn out to be bad to the bone. Everything leading up to the end made it look like it was shaping up to be a moralistic and formulaic little set-piece, although fairly decently executed. I’m glad that it turned out to be more complicated.

I wonder if Dr. Huang will be able to pull Stabler out of the fire in time. He has got to have noticed that the guy’s hovercraft is full of eels.

I didn’t see last night’s episode. but I’ve got to admit in watching SVU last season, IMO Stabler’s “tightly restrained violence” shtick has about been played to death. Added to that is the point that (again IMO) he’s not all that large or frightening, he’s more like a feisty terrier. It’s reminds me of tiny little Joe Friday terrorizing dope smoking hippies on Dragnet, or waifish little Horatio Caine on Miami CSI always threatening burly criminals with the smack-down.

Were there any romantic Elliot / Olivia moments?

God help me, I’m such a fangirl. :o

I thought the storyline would be that the cop who met Robert Patrick’s character at the prison framed the ex-con by raping the girl according to the ex-con MO.

“Hovercraft is full of eels”?

I’m not sure whether I should shake my head in disbelief or tell you that you rock.

Wha?

Christopher Meloni is 6’1’’ and about 200 lbs., with a fairly strong build. Add in a strong, masculine face, and the personality traits of Det. Stabler, and you got yourself a Pit Bull! A terrifying Pit Bull, ready to explode at any moment!

Wimpy, tiny terrier my ass!

that would have been a good twist

Og, no! And if such a storyline develops, I may have to stop watching - they can’t possibly need the ratings that badly

He doesn’t *look * 6’1" :dubious: . I guess I just have memories of him as the OZ bitch that affect my perception of his physical menace.

Ugh, I will be so pissed if they actually fuck. The possible tension is great, but having them hook up would ruin it.

I was really disappointed with the season opener. I LOVE the show, but I think it’s getting old. There was nothing original about last night’s episode, and though the acting is stellar, as always, the story lines are too predictable.

PS: BD Wong’s character annoys the hell out of me. But did anyone see him in The Salton Sea? I thought he did a great job playing FBI agent “Bubba.”

First, my overall impression: contrived bullshit storyline and emo sludge form a feeble excuse to bind together a series of kickass fight scenes and serve as a vehicle for character designs revitalized by 10 years of advancement in CGI. Seeing the characters depicted in anime form as seen in FF7: Last Order is much more satisfying, if you can find it.

That aside, there are a few specific things I’ve been pondering since I saw AC last week:

Kadaj, Loz, and Yazoo

Considering how the healing rain from Aeris’ church dissolved them, it would appear that they’re Geostigma personified. Still, considering how Kadaj became Sephiroth after absorbing some of Jenovas giblets, are they some surviving clones like those depicted in the game? I don’t recall seeing numbers tatooed on their hands, but then, Cloud didn’t have one in the movie either.

Cait Sith

He’s ditched his Moogle in favor of riding Red XIII/Nanaki, and appears to be an independent being. From the game I got the impression that he was some sort of remote control device operated by Reeve, but the movie suggests otherwise–I doubt that Reeve could control him in real time with that much efficiency, much less have the time to micromanage a puppet like that. Plus, in this new era where Turks and former-AVALANCHE can work together, wouldn’t it be moot for Reeve to be operating out of the shadows? Even though Cait Sith was iced in the collapse of the temple of the ancients and brought back as a new copy, I’m now under the distinct impression that he was just wearing a wire and acting as Reeve’s proxy that whole time.

The Turks
What the hell was Tseng doing still alive? Didn’t Sephiroth kill him in the Temple of the Ancients? Someone say “Phoenix down?”

Also, am I mistaken, or was Reno piloting a blackhawk? ;)
Summon Materia

IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE RED, DAMNIT. BLUE IS SUPPORT MATERIA! SUPPORT. Looks like Bahamut serves whoever wields the translucent billiard ball (though I was picturing them as being marble-sized). I have to say I respect Kadaj’s choice. Tera-flare, bitch.

The story sucks. Period. The fights rule, and I like how it handles references to the game. The characters still have their limit breaks, for example. They don’t refer to them specifically, but they’re there (omnislash 2k5, anyone?). And it sure was nice to look at, all things considered. It sure kicked ass to see them updated, but I still wish they could have been put in a more gripping situation.

Discuss.

OOOOHHHH crap.

Sorry for the unwitting hijack, guys.

:smack:

I don’t that Elliot and Olivia will hook up as I think Olivia knows better, considering she slept with Cassidy during the first season and that didn’t go too well.
