Law & Order: Los Angeles

Hit on this browsing Wiki – first I’ve heard of it:

Whaddaya think? The Next Big Thing, or another L&O: Trial by Jury?

Um, there’s already a Law & Order series set outside NYC; it’s called Law & Order: UK and the episodes I saw weren’t that good. What I’d really like to see is Dick Wolfe’s idea of Law & Order: Cairo come to fruition. Now that would be interesting.

Wikipedia lists French and Russian versions

How about Law & Order: Oklahoma? It would be refreshing for a change to see a television show set in Oklahoma, other than Saving Grace.

I don’t believe that they are in the same universe though, as many L&O:UK episodes are remakes of original L&O episodes.

The UK & French ones reportedly featured Richard Belzer as Munch at least once.

Couldn’t Jack McCoy, his assistant, and the officers just go to Los Angeles for a couple of episodes, like Laverne and Shirley?

The German version featured him as Münch.

There’s nothing interesting about an L&O Los Angeles.

Much like CSI, if they want to breathe something new into their lumbering beasts they need to figure out something new. I long ago said CSI could get me to watch by doing a CSI: Wyoming. One team would have to cover the entire state. It wouldn’t be that hard to write as a series.

NBC doesn’t have any new ideas, do they? At least CBS can justify all those CSi and NCIS spinoffs because they’re all hits. The various Law and Order aren’t doing that well anymore. They should call the new show Law & Order: Dead Horse.

They did, way back in Season 7, in a three part storyline ripped from the O.J. Simpson case.

I will watch Law & Order: Los Angeles, at least long enough to decide whether I like the writing and the actors. But I agree that it would be more interesting to go someplace other than L.A.

About time, as there is such a dearth of Law And Order episodes on television in first run and re-runs. I think there is actually 3 hours on a Tuesday where you can’t find an episode to watch.

My suggestion:
Law And Order: Amish Country
The lead officers zip around in carriages drawn by thoroughbreds and nab suspects loitering around in empty barns and sneaking in Walkmans to listen to pirated music on newfangled tapes.

No. I want my L&O gruff and cold, not sunny and happy. I’m going with “flop” - of course it’ll probably last forever.

Angelenos might take exception . . . but I do find myself wondering how the crimes police detectives might investigate in LA would be so different from those in NYC.

Maybe instead of changing the location for a spinoff they should change the time period. Keep in in NYC, but set in in the '50s (the 1950s and the 2050s are both good choices, as is the 1850s).
