There is a real-life Hudson Valley Community College (in Troy, N.Y.) and a Hudson College in Canada, which must be riddled with crime.
I have wondered about Oxford university’s thoguht on Endeavor, Inspector Morse and the other spin offs. That is a lot of crime for a small University town.
You think Hudson University is bad? What about the rich kid prep schools in Manhattan? The crime rate there must be 100 times worse than public schools according to L&O.

I don’t know if it’s still true, but I heard that the murder rate in rural areas was actually higher than in urban areas. The raw numbers are certainly much higher in the city, but the country rate is higher (or was).
I looked at Shropshire and indeed the violent crime rate was actually slightly higher than England & Wales as a whole. I always think of Shropshire when I watch Midsomer Murders.
