Laws regarding politicians knowing sensitive

crime scene information?

Long read below, but I have a point:

Ok, I will explain what I mean now. Back when Richard Ramirez (Night Stalker) was being investigated, the police had information that they did not/could not share with the general public.

Now, the Mayor of the city in which the murders were being investigated got on national TV and spilled her guts about everything the police knew and the public shouldn’t have known.

The reason being, there are things about murders that are kept quiet on purpose, things only the killer and the police know. The police want killers to keep making mistakes. If we let them know their mistakes, they will correct them and become even better murderers.

By going on TV and spilling her guts about things she shouldn’t have known, she could have seriously jeopardized the investigation and scared off the Night Stalker from committing any more crimes in the way he was accustomed to committing them. For instance, he may have worn a certain brand of sneakers, but since she said he wears them on TV, he won’t wear them any longer.

Are there now laws in place that prevent people such as mayors and other political figures from knowing sensitive information regarding crimes under investigation?

I correct my question.

**Are there now laws that prevent political figures from divulging information to the public? **

Not so much knowing information, but telling others. That was what I was trying to ask.
