League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - The movie?

Ang Lee is directing The Hulk which looks like a lot of fun.

is Harry Knowle’s rave about the shooting script for it.

:smack: Sorry… I forgot that someone had mentioned The Hulk. Brain fart.

I think it looks like fun, too… I’m just hoping they don’t overdo the CGI, but we’ll see.

Yeah, I have to go with elf6c on this one. The few articles I’ve read didn’t make it clear whether Connery was upset over the actual state of the film, or that he wasn’t getting the proper Star Treatment someone of his caliber deserved. I have to wonder why this sensitive artist apparently decided to keep quiet during the making of The Avengers and Zardoz.

Still, the movie doesn’t look promising. But because it seems (at least as far as the marketing goes) to be dumbing down a promising concept, not because the star of Rising Sun and Dragonheart and The Rock and Entrapment says it doesn’ t live up to his standards.

Well, let’s see…

**The Longest Day
The James Bond Movies
The Wind and the Lion
The Man Who Would Be King
A Bridge Too Far
Outland
Time Bandits
The Untouchables
The Hunt for Red October
The Rock

I’m sure there are a few other good movies in there as well. I think Sean can read a script.

I think he suffers from the same problem Michael Caine does - they are both workaholics, and they probably do far more movies than they should. Connery has made over 100 movies - in a body of work that large, there are bound to be some stinkers.

True enough. But in the last 20 years, the ratio of stinkers to good films is kind of shocking for a “great” actor. Additionally, in many of his “good” films he is just a supporting actor, playing second fiddle to the likes of Nic Cage, Harrison Ford, Alex Baldwin et al. In the last 20 years, when he has headlined the film, it usually has stunk.

Frankly not too impressive. Although there are a few really good movies in there, Connery tends to be a supporting actor in those movies. IMHO, his career peaked with Bond, and he has been milking it ever since. Is he a bad actor-- no. Just not nearly as good as some give him credit for. Further, as the parade of stinkers attests, he surely doesn’t have much of an eye for scripts (especially when the part isn’t explictly written for him.)

The list of films he produced also speaks towards his “eye” for good movies:

Producer - filmography
(2000s) (1990s)

Finding Forrester (2000) (producer)
Entrapment (1999) (producer)
… aka Verlockende Falle (1999) (Germany)

Just Cause (1995) (executive producer)

… aka Last Days of Eden, The (1992)

Maybe I am bitter because I paid to see this movie:

http://us.imdb.com/Title?0104839

Which had sterling lines like this:
Dr. Robert Campbell: It’s only one fly in the serum. I can’t reproduce it.
Dr. Rae Crane: What do you mean?
Dr. Robert Campbell: None of the new samples work and I have very little of the original serum left. That’s what I mean when I say I can’t reproduce it.
Dr. Rae Crane: Wait a minute. I don’t understand.
Dr. Robert Campbell: What don’t you understand? I found the cure for the fucking plague of the twentieth century and now I’ve lost it. Haven’t you ever lost anything doctor Bronx? Your purse? Your car keys? Well, it’s rather like that: Now you have it and now you don’t.
mmmm, classic.

Personally, I think it looks like ass. Way to miss the whole frickin’ point, Hollywood.
