Learned something a week ago. Puffy eyelid - results in bad eyesight.

My so called good eye has been watering and giving me fits for several months. Refresh drops helped some. But even worse is my vision. I’m guessing at letters on the pc screen. You may have noticed typos in my posts. Went to my ophthalmologist for my routine checkup on my bad left eye (thank you Shingles for the damage). Told him about the right eye.

He couldn’t correct my vision with lenses. He dilated my eyes and used his gadget to look for irritation inside. Then I go and look into a special high tech machine that maps the inside of the eyeball with a laser. Thankfully that showed no problems.

Finally he looked at my swollen eyelid. Said its caused by a blocked eye-duct. Chalazion is the fancy name. He thinks its pressing on my eyeball and distorting my vision. He instructed, Hot compresses on the eye three times a day and a prescription ointment on the eyelid. If that don’t work, he’ll drain it with a needle. I sure hope thats not necessary.

Never take your vision for granted. Get that Shingles shot now!!! I was 42 when Shingles attacked my left eye and forehead. Ten years of bad vision in that eye and daily prednisolone eye drops. They tried weaning me off them. I do ok for a few months and everything goes extremely blurry. Back to the prednisolone drops. I see ok with glasses, but I’ve now got a cataract that will soon need removing. They are scanning and mapping the cataract with this new high tech gadget.

I hate Shingles. Sometimes my left eyebrow gets itchy and numb. Ten years later. Damn shingles.

It Scares me when my right eye screws up. Good thing my third eye is ok.

You had shingles just about the same time I did. I developed a rash on my forehead that didn’t go away in a few weeks so I went to the doc about it. He took one look and knew it was shingles, though, oddly, it didn’t hurt or itch or anything. He immediately sent me to an eye doctor to make sure it hadn’t gotten into my eyes and, thankfully, it hadn’t. That was my one and only bout with that dastardly virus and I can’t imagine how I got off so lightly.

Sorry things didn’t go so well for you but you’ve encouraged me to get my shingles shot. I’ll check with my insurance to see if they’ll cover it.

Hope your tear duct clears up soon. And hang in there. I’ll be thinking good thoughts for you.

Thanks Hopeful Crow. The hot compresses seem to help and my eye feels better. Not as much tearing and watering.

I had mistakenly thought shingles attacked old folks. At 42 it didn’t seem possible. Boy did I find out different. It only attacked my left side, the forehead and eye. Not my back or chest.

I don’t recall when I had chicken pox. My mom says I was six. Had measles around that age too. Never got mumps.

get a shot as soon as you can even if insurance doesn’t cover it.

it can prevent or lessen a reoccurrence.

My husband had his tear duct drained or removed due to infection. I think it’s a relatively straight forward procedure. Hopefully you won’t need it, but I wanted to reassure you that it’s not too bad…

That’s a relief to hear. Thanks.

Needles and my eyelid doesn’t sound pleasant. But whatever it takes to get better.
