Hi there. This upcoming semester is going to be my first experience with math in over 4 years and I’m terrified. It is College Algebra, which seems like it wouldn’t be that difficult, but I do not know anything besides the basics when it comes to math and I’m familair with very little algebra.
My question is:
What can I do?
I have a basic Algebra textbook but am in need of something to supplement it.
Does anyone have any good websites I could visit to get help with learning Algebra? If so, I’d appreciate the link a whole lot. Thanks
I though Al Gebra was a banned terrorist organisation?
All I could find in google are commercial courses, but I guess that’s not what you’re after.
See if you can get a used high school algebra book, and start that one in advance.
Or, ask your college prof about tutoring, formal or informal.
Or, ask your friends. Some of them like math.
Or, ask your college prof about Web sites or other material.
From what I’ve seen, the name “college algebra” usually is somewhat more advanced than high school algebra. You’ll probably find yourself dealing with the following, each of which you can get some help with in Mathworld

[li]Simultaneous equations[]Matrices[]Theory of equations[]Mathematical Induction[]Binomial theorem (proving derivation thereof)[]Sequences and series[]More involved stuff involving interest and amortization (e.g., how much money must I put aside at 4% interest compounded monthly in order to have exactly $100,000 in five years?[/ul][/li]
About 10 years ago I started looking at an old CA book that had belonged to my father and found it was actually pretty interesting, and I"d always hated math before that.
Thanks for the link guys; I appreciate it a lot.
I bought my daughter a set of CDs that included Algebra, Trig, Geometry, Calc, and Statistics. They were tutorials and included practice problems. She found them helpful - she got straight As once she got to Calc.
