"Learning to Fly"--what was in the coffee?

I was at the gym this morning on an elliptical trainer watching VH1–no sound. There was a video by the Foo Fighters for “Learning to Fly.” On a commercial airliner, one of the cleaning crew ditched a packet of something into a coffee filter. During the subsequent flight the flight attendant made and served coffee from it, and wild things ensued. The cleaning guy was arrested by the FBI at the end.

Does the soundtrack tell you what was in the packet? It was obviously some kind of controlled substance–people were giddy or hallucinating–but I was wondering if they mentioned specifically what.

Sorry, no specific mention.

My money’s on Mary Jane though.

It’s pretty clear from having watched the video several times that it is indeed a packet of marijuana.

Nah, I think it was a white powder. Unless it was pot in a white bag.

But would that mean heroin or cocaine? I don’t know if either of those would be effective when infused in coffee. And the dose would probably be much higher than normal. I’m guessing that heroin would probably put everyone in a coma or kill them and that cocaine would give everyone a heart attack.

So I’m guessing it was just pure, uncut McGuffin. [sub]In other words, some magic, generic ‘happy drug’ that doesn’t exist in the real world.[/sub]

Because some people were hallucinating (didn’t the fat lady see someone turn into a hamburger?), I assumed it was LSD.

[nitpick] The song’s called ‘Learn To Fly’. ‘Learning To Fly’ is by Tom Petty[/nitpick]

I thought it was MJ as well, but with no MTV it’s a while since I’ve seen the video. It’s a top vid.

[nitpick]If you really want to nitpick, Pink Floyd had a Learning to Fly before Petty did[/nitpick]

Did you notice the cleaning guys were Jack Black and the other guy from Tenacious D.

[supernitpick]As did Emerson, Lake & Powell a year before P.F. [/supernitpick]

[secondary hijack]The ‘other guy’ is Kyle Gass[/secondary hijack]

And KGS, the less said about ELPowell the better.

A couple of real-life flight crew guys got busted for smuggling drugs on planes. They were the inspiration for this video.
