LEAST favorite added character

who is Dwight?!?!?! I’ve seen all of the episode multiple times! Why don’t I know this? I’m scared!
Okay, mine has to be The coach on Sealab 2021. Sure Harry Goz died, but I just liked Captain Murphy so much more. I think they went in the wrong direction since then, and I haven’t really watched it too much.

Dwight was the Professor’s clone. He was a kid genius who constantly pointed out to the others how stupid they all acted. He had a smushed-up nose from being grown in a vat that was too small. I think he was only prominently featured in the episode that gave his origin, but he put in a few one-scene appearances (like the Planet Express janitor did).

Lauren on Alias. I don’t hate for what she did to Vaughn and Sydney’s relationship, but I just hate her character. If she didn’t do what she did, I probably wouldn’t hate her, but I’d still have a slight dislike for her.

What!!!? Doctor Who smoked Wacky Weed?

Do you mean his granddaughter Susan, and the companions Leela and Sarah Jane?

I was partial to Zoe and her skintight catsuit, myself.

Sir Rhosis

That’s Cubert. Dwight was Hermes’ son. They had 2 or 3 episodes where they featured prominantly and had a few walkons in later seasons.

Whoops! Forgot my own!

Red Dwarf. In Season 7 they added a female character as a romantic foil for the main character, totally undermining the entire point of the series, considering it was the adventures of (as far as he knew) the last man in existance. They jumped the shark even further when they brought back the entire crew in season 8.

The shark jumping is easily explained in this case; the creative duo responsible for seasons 1-6 split up and the guy who continued it wasn’t very good on his own.

I didn’t like Pulaski the first time around either, but after I got the complete set of DVDs I liked her a lot better. Dr. Crusher was so bland, and McFadden wasn’t the greatest actress either.

Yeah, but if they hadn’t added this character, they could not have spun it off to become one of the funniest shows on TV.

  1. Mr. Furley on Three’s Company. I don’t have to explain it, do I?

  2. Nadia on Alias. I just can’t warm up to her–one badass spy is a good thing. Two of them just doesn’t work for me–it’s too *Charlie’s Angels * or something. Plus, I’m not convinced she’s on the up and up.

  3. Speaking of Charlie’s Angels, the Shelley Hack character–I can’t remember her name.

AHA!
I knew something was amiss! But yeah, I understand it with Cubert. I sort of guessed that Dwight was Hermes’ son, but I didn’t think he was worthy of any kind of emotion.

Most loved Character?

Dr. John Zoidberg

Candace Bergen on Boston Legal. Haaaaate her, even more because her character fired Lake Bell’s, thus forever removing her jiggly cleavage from the show.

My vote is for the two blondes after Crissy on “Three’s Company”. They never clicked with Jack and Janet.

I want to second Dawn on “Buffy”, too. Watching re-runs, it’s such a groan moment when Dawn appears for the first time.

And the Blue-Haired Dead-Fred character on “Angel” was pretty gratuitous, too. And another vote for Connor.

The second “Becky” on Rosanne.

Puss in Boots from Shrek 2. Eddie Murphy’s Donkey character put it best: “I’m sorry, but the position of annoying talking animal has already been taken!”

Yes, but Puss in Boots was so much less annoying and more apropriate talking animal than the donkey. In fact, I think he was one of the few bright spots in a almost wholly tedious sequel to a great film. The general public and the studio apparently agrees with me, because they are giving Puss his own film.

Thank you!

I’m surprised this wasn’t mentioned earlier. The second Becky turned the character into a space cadet…and she never was in the early shows. That always annoyed me, as I loved that show.
