Leaving Regretfully

Hey everybody… I just thought I’d let peeps know I wont be around much anymore. Not like I have been around too too much anyway except in bursts but shrugs still in case anyone misses me I thought they might like to know.

Life is going insane right now and because I live with my Grandparents I have to abide by their rules. Now one of those rules is no internet except for school stuff. No chatting, no boards, no nothing. It’s a ‘waste of time’ it seems. Just like reading too many books and writing stories, I’m supposed to give them up and do ‘something constructive’ rather then sitting in my room for hours.

A lot of it is because they want me to do other things but some of it also has to do with tying up the phone line and the rising power costs (those in Edmonton know what I’m talking about… hell the whole province does too) Since I don’t have a job and can’t find one (I’ve only had one interview and they didn’t hire me) I can’t help out with the power nor get my own phoneline. And since I can’t do that obviously the option of moving out is not a part of it. Quite simply I can’t, I’m stuck here till I get my high school and the money to move and the place to move to, most of which isn’t gonna happen for awhile (at least 3 semesters for my diploma the rest who knows when the hell it’ll happen)

I’ll come and check from school every so often but it’ll probably be a lot of drive by posting. I’ll see you around peeps. I’ve enjoyed my time here with you all.

:frowning:

It’s been nice seeing you around, TopazAntares. I had fun with you at that Craft Fair thread a couple weeks ago. I’m sorry to hear about that “school-stuff only” rule your grandparents imposed, but at least you’ll be able to post from school. Take care, and happy Christmas to you.

I feel for you. When I was your age there were no personal computers and no internet, but I was an avid reader and very shy. My parents were always trying to get me to quit reading so much and get out and do things that were either very difficult or terribly boring for me.

What do your grandparents want you to do that’s not a waste of time? And if you can’t waste time at your age, when will you get the chance?

How much longer will it be till you get out of high school?
It probably seems like forever, I know time passed a lot more slowly for me when I was younger. Still, it will pass.

I also learned a lot more outside of school than in class, despite always getting good grades, because life outside and in my books was just more interesting. Maybe you could point out the stated goal of the straight dopers - the fight against ignorance! Nah, that’ll never work.

Yah I’m glad I can get here from school (I’m here now actually. It’s a good thing the comps are rarely in use by classes at this time)

eulalia They want me to either do crafts (because you have something to prove you’ve done something other then just a story) or go out and do stuff outside, play games, hang out with friends. Yah I’m kinda shy too and its hard for me to make friends. My brother is more outgoing then I am he already has tons of friends and girls chasing after him and a part time job and everything (He’s 14) but for me everything like that takes time.

Actually I should be out of school now but since I screwed up big time I probably have about a year and a half before I’ll get my diploma considering how many credits I need and stuff. smiles And since I’m 18 (and a legal adult here) I shouldn’t waste my time and be working hard and stuff like that. It’s only been about 4 months but its getting harder. sighs and looks at the calender another 18 months approx to go

I think you may be surprised at how your attitude toward the board changes when you stop posting for a while.

It’s like watching a favorite soap opera.
When you have other things to do, it loses importance.
I suspect you’ll do fine, and still return enough to have fun with it.

CRAFTS? They want you to MACRAME? Jesus. Well, this will be good incentive to go out there and get yourself a real job, so you can goof off at your desk on the Internet while pretending to work, like the rest of us.

Reminds me of those Shirley Temple movies, where she has to go live with her mean old Granda, who won’t let her surf the Internet . . .

TopazAntares, I will miss you. Come back when you can. We’ll leave the light on.

Maybe if you started making MONEY from the net they’d change their tune. Web design or something. You’re creative–it shouldn’t be hard. Start by doing it for their church. They could NEVER argue with that!

smiles at Eve Macrame? Oh no nothing like that. Cross-stitch, knitting, crocheting, sewing that kind of thing (most of which I already do just not all that much very often) And I can’t get a real job till I get my high school. I wouldn’t know where to start if I could anyway.

dropzone I’d love to do that but my web making isn’t all that great. I only know html and that’s it. Plus like I said I’d need my own phone line first so until I start making enpugh money from the net to pay for that I wouldn’t be let on anyway in case someone calls them and is trying to get through. IE One of the outlaws… er relatives… keels over from a heart attack and dies. The other relatives dial up the house and all they get is a busy signal (they have an answering machine not a voicemailbox with the phone company so people can’t leave messages) and so they must try again and again till I am offline. This is not a good state of affairs. (I like to spends hours online anyway. just like I spend hours reading or writing stories… sometimes I’m doing all three at the same time on the computer)

So I’m just SOL

smiles Oh and Mu Mu I thought that too but I post in spurts sometimes you can’t get rid of me and other times you have to search to find me. Just depends whats happening with me at the time and how much time I have to spare.

Oh yah one last thing dropzone… their lapsed Protestants (I think their protestant) last time Grandma went that wasn’t a funeral would probably have been 2 years ago Christmas… probably longer for Grandpa.

Well I’m heading out to brave the malls and finish the last of my shopping. Maybe I’ll cheer up or maybe I’ll just go insane at the mall. We’ll see… later

{{topaz}}. I have always read a lot & my mom never understood that - wanted me to spend my money on other, more important things. I think part of the problem is that she only reads books once then gives them away to charity shops or friends, whereas I reread things (& have something like 2000 books by now…).
Anyway, I am just trying to set up a laptop so that I can still have internet access while I am away at xmas for a week, (it’s taking a while as it doesn’t have a CD drive :frowning: ), but 18 months of it would be hell!

I’ll miss you, Topaz. Don’t worry, a time will come when you can come back and post and post and post! (Hehe, I sneak onto the boards a lot at school, too!)

Topaz, one trick is to find crafts that…well, will make them want you to read instead.

Knife making/collecting. A pretty enjoyable craft, though it can be a bit expensive.

Chainsaw Sculpting. Speaks for itself.

Tatoos. You design the art, then someone else puts it on you.

Oil Painting. This one is a little more subtle, and it has to be oils, not watercolors or acrylics, ever smell paint thinner in a warm house? Headache city, and afterwards, you might be able to sell it.

See, lots of nice crafts that will have them asking you to read in no time.

You know I’ll miss you, Topaz.
