LECLERCIA ADECARBOXYLA. What is it?

This is what the lab results say for my dog’s ear. The vet pulled some brown crud out of her ear for a culture. The vet is gone today and the vet tech never saw this diagnosis before.

Google is no help. What does my dog have?

It’s spelled “Leclercia adecarboxylata”. A rare (in humans) bacteria (found in gut, I think).

Now this is weird. I saw this post yesterday and Googled for it, and was trying to post that Google comes up with a bunch of hits, but the SDMB kept crapping out on me.

Now I find that I must have typed in the correct spelling by mistake, as the spelling in the OP only gives one hit. What are the chances of typing it in wrong and inadvertently getting the correct spelling? (Well, ok, -ata is a fairly intuitive Latin name ending)

It’s a bacterium that is similar to E. coli. In fact it used to be classified in the same genus as E. coli, Escherischia.

Thanks guys. Whatever it is, apparently it’s nothing to worry about. She has ear drops and amoxycillin and that should clear it up. Phew. The name alone just sounded so…icky. E. Coli. related? ew.
