Left Behind- the travesy continues...

**

Blonde hair, blue eyes, what else?

Maybe it’s just that it’s a rainy dreary morning, but this amused me far more than it should have.

Jess, you’re right. Left Behind doesn’t produce readers. I love the Harry Potter books for themselves and because they’ve made avid readers of so many kids. I think there’s a legitimate & favorable comparison between Harry Potter & Alice in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass.

I would imagine that the hardcore Left Behind addicts are of the opinion that Harry Potter is Satanic.

What is an example of some of the dialogue and such? I don’t want to actually be seen checking these out of the library, even for shits and giggles.

Has anybody read the Left Behind for Kids series? I’m like Guinastasia, I don’t want to be seen checking them out. There are some cheap ones at the used bookstore I patronize, but I’m personally acquainted with the owner. Sheesh, it would be as bad as buying Barbara Cartland novels. (Not that I know what that is like of course)

Interesting Amazon review:

Do people really do that? For crying out loud! Now THAT is scary.

Another thing-okay, for those who were “left behind”, they have a chance to “get right with Christ.” But like, surely all those disappearances caused some massive chaos and death-planes crashing and car pile ups. What about someone who wasn’t “Raptured”, but just happened to be on a plane with a “Raptured” pilot, and was killed before he or she could “get saved.” H’uh? That sucks!

BTW, in case you’re interested, those of us who have actually read the entire Bible all the way through, not just selected parts our pastors told us to memorize, know that according to Scripture, what the LB books term “The Rapture” and “The Glorious Appearing” occur simultaneously. Too lazy to look up chapter and verse right now, but it is quite clear that at the Second Coming, Jesus appears, and His followers are caught up “to meet with him in the air”. Also, “the dead in Christ shall rise first”. It’s been awhile since I read the first book, but IIRC, there is no mention of the deceased being resurrected (disturbed graves, corpses disappearing from funeral homes, etc.) So, the LB series vision of the Rapture is not biblical.

I have braved a few of the LB: the kids books. They are much worse. You can read 1 in every 3 and still understand the plot, since they move so slowly; I think the first one got about 6 hours into the Rapture. Since my interest was specifically in YA Christian fiction, I read a few, but they were very, very painful. Your library ought to have some, if they can keep them on the shelves for long, and you can read one in about 20 minutes if you really want the experience.

There IS a parody:
Right Behind: A Parody of Last Days Goofiness.

Okay, reading the Amazon reviews, I have a question-what is the deal with Buck and Chloe?

Buck was an atheist, and a cynical, sophistocated journalist. Yet, he’s a virgin who won’t hold hands and is scandalized at talk of sex?

Da’hell?

LB: the kids should be banned under the Geneva Convention. Never read them. Ever.
