Where is there a good place to buy your basic left handed pocket knife? My BF recently lost his and I am looking to replace it for Christmas.
I have googled but I am not finding much in the way for pocket knives. I am finding mostly kitchen knives.
Swiss Army has some but he does not need all the extra gadgets.
Anyone have a good site?
Exactly what are you looking for? My Gerber Truss pocketknife has an assist knob on both sides of the blade, so you can open it with either hand.
I am not sure. I just know when he lost it he was pissed because it had a lefty “something” about it and I think he also said a left sided belt/pocket clip.
It was just a dark blue handled pocket knife.
I thought maybe they made special knives for left handled people and apparently they do in the kitchen sense I was just not having much luck in the pocket knife search.
I will search more for “assist knob”
assist knob sounds dirty for some reason
Many of the Spyderco and Benchmade knives have pocket clips that can be repositioned for left/right preference and also tip up/tip down. The Spydercos are easily opened with either hand.
Yes!
I have both Spyderco and Gerber knives that are designed to be used by a southpaw. I love my Spyderco knives (they have a big “o” in the face of the blade that your thumbtip fits in, allowing you to swivel it open). Gerbers are just as tough (IMHO) but cheaper pricewise. It all depends on what you plan on using the knife for, anyway. I sometimes cut wire with my knives. It’s obviously not good for them. Would I rather ruin or lose a $20 or a $100 knife?
Big Difference in price. Spyderco knives are pricey (45-150+, mine was $100) (see here: http://www.thebladeshop.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=131 )
Whereas gerber is cheaper (10-45 mostly, and available at wally world) (see here: Gerber STL 2.0 Folding Knife 2.1" Plain Blade, Stainless Steel Handles - KnifeCenter - 22-41122).
I have one Spyderco left (I lost one) and now have about 5 of the gerbers, most of them were about $20 at Wally World.
To simplify: look at the knives, and try them in your left hand. Can you open them? Then that would be the one to try. Or get him a gift certificate and have him pick ut the one he wants.
Hope this helps!
Thanks, all of these suggestions have been helpful.
I think my best bet is to get him a gift certificate to pick it out for himself.
I have been looking and I have no idea which one he would prefer. He used it all the time on a daily basis so he misses it a lot.
The Gerber Paraframe models work for this lefty too.
