Legal method of finding "lost" car?

Hi all, looking for options to track down a particular vehicle, namely this 1977 Celica which was given away in a competition of early the next year, and never(?) seen since. It was, and is hopefully still Star Wars themed, and I will include some links to what I have already read about this car.

Just to be clear, I have no interest in (nor means of) obtaining this vehicle for myself, but would like to see it resurface if it still exists in the original condition, probably to end up in Steve Sansweets Star Wars collection!

What I am asking I guess, is, are there any legal ways of requesting the information I would need to track it down? Did contest winners in California names have to be recorded and/or published at the time? Would Toyota have to have records of the V.I.N? and if so, and they released it (could they be forced?), then what would be the next step in tracking it from that?

Any methods for finding racking this vehicle’s fate would be much appreciated, Thanks…
