Legal type question

I’m just looking for general information. Not so much looking for legal advice as much as I’m curious about insurance.

I am a State Employee. I fell at work back in December, but was denied workman’s comp (called SEICTF here) because I was on the sidewalk outside the building.

Do y’all have any idea who I should contact about the fall itself? I was pretty badly hurt (foot reconstruction, still in a wheelchair, waiting to have hernia surgery from hitting the sidewalk so hard.) I’m not interested in a huge civil trial or anything like that, but I’m getting lots of bills over this now.

My insurance agent said that the Government building carries insurance about things like this but didn’t know who I should contact. And I can’t find anything but SEICTF. Am I screwed because I was turned down for the workman’s comp or is that not the same thing?

Side note: If I do need an attorney, should I get one outside of Montgomery because of all the politics?

Do you not have health insurance?

Here is some information that may be relevant to your issue:

I have insurance but it doesn’t cover the rentals on all the medical equipment - home hospital bed, wheelchair, walker, etc - that I needed because our house isn’t handicap accessible.

See an attorney. You can obtain a personal injury consultation for free, usually, since such attorneys work not on retainer, but rather on receiving a percentage of any recovery you make. Your question cannot possibly be answered in any reasonable way by anyone who is not a) intimately acquainted with Alabama law, and b) in possession of more facts than are feasible to relate here. Trust me on this.
