How old do you have to be to drink/smoke? And someone told me that pot is leagal there. Me and my friend are planning on visiting and she said she wants to do what the local folk do. So I am trying to get some research done.
The legal age in Vancouver (all of BC actually), I believe is 19 to drink and to buy smokes.
Pot is a little different. While it’s not Amsterdam quite yet, posession of small amount of pot is not really enforced. I thikn it’s still technically illegal all across Canada; the new law hasn’t fully kicked in yet.
Just don’t be stupid about it. Don’t fire one up in the middle of the ski lodge for example, and you should be fine.
My advice is obviously just opinion. Don’t be calling me from jail if you do get busted.
That and dealing is still illegal (IIRC). So it’s not like you can stop in the local tobacco shop and buy youself some doobies. You might not get charged if you’re caught with a small amount for personal use (it’s the “possession” part of the law that’s being ammended, is it not?), but acquiring the pot to begin with will probably require some kind of illegal activity to take place.
