Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

I’m at about the same point - stupid work getting in my way. I’ve been really frustrated by the long dialog chunks - I wish there was a way to skip them. The ones from Fi can feel way intrusive.

Mostly I like the swordfighting, but yes, I definitely need practice - a big open field like someone mentioned earlier would be great because it would give me a place to go practice, beyond the practice building up in the sky.

My play is getting ready to slow down because of Thanksgiving, but luckily I’ve got 2 weeks off in December, and I expect to spend some quality time exploring the game then.

So how are people getting along with it so far? The more I’m playing it the more I love it at this stage. Every time I think something is getting repetitive or boring they change it up, the pacing is honesty fantastic.

Spoilers up to 4th dungeon

Was seriously annoyed when I got the Farore’s Courage light tear collecting bit, I HATED the light tears in Twilight Princess. But it was actually surprisingly enjoyable. The “Guardians” were basically the Phantoms from Phantom Hourglass, except not nearly as frustrating this time round. Very pleasantly surprised.

Then when you have to get the sacred water, I really thought they were going to make me do a dungeon again, thought it was incredibly lame, but once again I was thankfully wrong. Plus the fact that you have to nip through the area again makes it easier to grab the stuff you missed first time through. Seriously impressed with layout and pacing.

Only disappointment was after dungeon 3, where you get to the Temple of Time I was really excited to see the time travel mechanic back again. But it looks like that’s not really going to happen since there looks to be another dungeon in each of the areas already visited :frowning:

Also, I shall put this in a spoiler although it’s not really, it’s based on place names, which are the same as in Twilight Princess

I am such an idiot that I literally never realised the relationship between the 3 goddesses and the areas in TP and SS.
Farun - Farore
Eldin - Din
Lanayru - Nayru

I r dumb :smack:

I’m still (stuck) at Eldin Volcano

looking for key peices. I got to the top one way , now I have to go down the other way (eh… I think), and the damn bridge is out.

You can always go back to the Sheikah stone in Skyloft to get an answer.

Hint

Look left and right, you may be able to cross without using the bridge

Strong hint

Shimmying & rock climbing may be involved

Straight-up answer:p

There’s a place where you can drop down, hang on with your hands and shimmy across very near the bridge. Can’t remember if it’s left or right

Scathach

Are you talking about the vines? I just did it, I didn’t think I would make it though.

Unless I’m thinking of a different place, it’s a ledge you can hang on to and shimmy across
oh, and after the ledge, there are vines that you’ll need to make a running jump to
Is anyone else finding that the overworld is harder to figure out than the actual dungeons? That’s a pretty fresh change for the 3D Zelda games, I like it.

Anyone pick up and use the players guide?

…I have and it’s really not written out well. I’m either missing a Goddess Cube, or they misprinted that I can get Goddess Treasure Chest #10! If I did miss it, I don’t want to go back looking for things! I’ve spent hours bug collecting, and… trying to follow this stupid guide. The book also has a separate section for side quests. Which pisses me off, because it other guides they usually mention what side quest is open at any specific time!

Thinking of ditching the guide. What should I do? I wanted to 100% this game, or at least get all the Goddess Chests and Hearts.

Damn it, I hate it when I miss something. Stupid Goddess Treasure Chest #10! The book says; ‘here’s Goddess Stone #10’… I whack it, it disappeared… But there’s no chest on my game’s sky map just #9! Damn it!

I’m not a 100% completionist so I didn’t really go out of my way to search for goddess cubes. How far along are you though?

once you reach a certain point, you’ll discover some more sky. Possible the chest might be there

Desert area

Yeah it’s after that.

not saying for sure that’s where the chest will be, but there are more islands in the sky that you can’t get to yet

Oh Lord I hate the fucking controls in this game. Trying to rope walk is painful. Trying to deal with anything while rope walking? Impossible. Also, my arm hurts from holding it up and stretching in every direction trying to get a Skyward Strike going.

Also, not liking this shield breaking thing. Or even the stamina meter. One of the things I love about this franchise is trying over and over again until you get something - you may have no idea what you’re supposed to do, but the game allows you to discover it in all the time you need. Meanwhile, as a seasoned Zelda veteran, my shield broke on the first enemy. :frowning: Four hits while you’re still learning is horrible.

Sailor Moon reject villain is interesting though.

Does this game work with the original Wii setup, or do you have to have the motion-plus thingy?

I’ve noticed the rope walking isn’t as sensetive as it seems. Any time link leans too far one way I give the controller a quick full 45 degree tilt in the opposite direction. To get a skyward strike going all you really need to do is turn the remote vertical pointing up, no need to raise your arm, just bend your wrist.

Are you holding the Wii Remote straight-up, before tilting it side-to-side? It shouldn’t be too difficult.

Same goes for the Skyward Strike–just point it upward and it’ll “lock” into place before charging.

In addition to what others have been saying, note that there are technically two (well… three) maps when you’re in the sky, the normal one and the Skyloft map. Goddess Chests in Skyloft won’t appear on the map unless you’ve actually loaded Skyloft, and chests elsewhere (Lumpy Pumpkin etc) I don’t think show up unless you’ve loaded “the sky” for flying.

Rope walking is easy . Are you holding the controller the right way? I agree that dealing with enemies while on the rope is painful (I’m still early in the game), but I found just walking across the rope was pretty easy (and I’m not video game stud, I usually play on the easiest setting if it’s available).

Also, I’m assuming you’ll eventually get s shield that doesn’t break, right?

I for one agree that it is unintuitive. It was not clear to me from the in-game instructions how to hold the controller correctly, nor was it ever clear to me how to deal with enemies while rope walking. I’ve tried wagging the controller with no luck. Similarly for flying the loftwing. The in-game instructions were totally confusing to me as to whether I was to yaw or roll or aim the controller, and I’m still not completely sure about the pitch, whether the controller’s pitch matters or just wagging up and down. I have found myself rather annoyed by the unintuitive mechanics.
