Legion (show on FX)

Yeah, no. Rationalize all you want, but the reality is that TV shows make their money on TV.

There is nothing to rationalize, normal TV watching is going the way of Blockbuster video. There is a clearly better option available, cable TV either adapts or dies.

You know Ellis Dee some of us have a life to live. We can’t chain ourselves to a TV to watch when the damn thing is run. Currently, in my life, I have to work Wednesday nights, so I CAN’T watch it when it initially airs. So yeah Ellis Dee, put all the blame on me because I can’t fit my life to enable a TV show to get ratings. Idiot.

Leaving aside the moral weight you are placing on watching a TV show, On Demand watching is noted by networks and, in my region at least, comes with unskip-able commercials.

That’s the part where Dr. Kissinger is suddenly trying to rush Syd out of the institute. It’s not really clear whose point-of-view is being followed at that point - it comes after a David fantasy/memory montage that is itself fairly disjointed (e.g., David shows Syd something that may have been his powers, but at that point he seemingly doesn’t know he has powers). Lenny accosts Syd, Kissinger is distressed to get Syd out, and suddenly David is there. Is that David’s (probably twisted) perception of what was going on? Or is that Syd’s (suspect) recollection of what happened?

Both of the two perspectives we’ve got on most of the institute scenes seem to be compromised by the Devil With the Yellow Eyes being around, and they’ve deduced from Ptonomy’s power that it can alter memories.

That, and the disjointed way the end of the institute scenes were presented, makes me think we’re not supposed to trust that any of that sequence is strictly accurate.

I put no moral weight on watching a TV show, and I never said you have to watch it live as it airs. Next day is fine, and it still counts if you can manage to watch it within 3-7 days of the original air date. Next day is weighted more than 3 days, and 3 days is weighted more than 7 days, but they all count. You can watch it either via On Demand or your DVR and it still counts.

What doesn’t count, and what advertisers don’t pay for, is waiting a month or until the whole season airs so you can binge large chunks. That viewing pattern may as well not exist when it comes to advertisers deciding what to pay for.

Yes, you work Wednesday nights so you CAN’T watch it Thursday, or Friday, or Saturday, or Sunday, or Monday, or Tuesday. Nope, woe is you, you just can’t possibly manage to watch a show you like within a week of its original airings to help out its struggling ratings.

Or you can watch it whenever is more convenient and enjoyable for you, as current technology allows, and leave it up to the people running the networks to adapt to current viewing habits as they should or go the way of the dodo. Asking people to inconvenience themselves to keep a dead business model alive is utterly ridiculous.

Ellis Dee are you trying to be an asshole or are you just trolling me?

I’m trying to get my life back after TWO years of being out of work! Try getting hired these days if you’re over 55, jerk! So, I was able to make some time a few days AFTER the show first aired to watch what I missed, cause I’m lucky enough to have kept my cable and internet while having to give up a whole lot of other things. So, Ellis Dee, I’ll drop to my knees and ask forgiveness to you, because I can’t help out a TV show’s ratings. What was I thinking? Trying to get my life back, trying to get my career back, I should listen to you Ellis Dee because you have the answer. I have all my priorities wrong. I should skip trying to earn a living and concentrate ONLY on helping a TV show get ratings.

I’ve been on these boards for nearly two years and for the most part I’ve **really **enjoyed the topics, conversations and the people. I didn’t realize I’d have to deal with clueless assholes like you.

I apologize to the mods for my language, but after the lousy two years I’ve had I really don’t need to deal with jerks like this Ellis Dee guy, especially on boards that I go to to have some good conversations.

I’m not arguing for TV in general. My point is far more precise than that: If there’s a specific TV show that you like, and it’s struggling in the ratings, you don’t get to complain about it being cancelled for low ratings if you never contributed to those ratings.

In other words, support shows that you personally like. Don’t wait for them to be cancelled, then binge all the episodes and complain about it being cancelled.

I don’t care about your personal situation at all.

Fuck you

Of COURSE you do, because using the ratings in the first place is a DUMB system that no longer reflects the true popularity of a show.

New thread to discuss streaming vs live view vs OnDemand vs DVR in regards to shows being renewed or otherwise made (think Mindy Project for the latter, moved to Hulu original).

Can we take this there and return to Legion?

Yep, let us return to the astral plane, to chill in our white suits …

I know I’m not supposed to be, but I’m not sure. It is not as seen by David as he was not there, so it cannot be his memory and it is before Syd and he whatevered so being her memory altered seems wrong. Of course the show is not exactly linear so I could be off.

Anyway now having OnDemanded ep 5 I think read the end as David, under the extreme stress of the threat to Syd in the white room immediately prior, having created a place for them to be “lost together” with the others being figments of his creation.

moved to the other thread.

[Moderator Warning]

Richard John Marcej, that sort of language is not allowed on this board, and especially not outside of the BBQ Pit.
Everyone else, please dial it back, too, and get back to politely discussing the show.

I’m willing to bet the group session at the end of the last episode is in the astral plane. All of the participants are now people we’ve encountered through the show, not the original patients.

I think Lenny the girl was an actual patient. She might not even have been named Lenny. I don’t think she’s referred to as such while David and Syd are in the hospital. David the starts seeing her after the monster, for whatever reason recasts, his druggie-buddy as her. Didn’t we learn at one point that his druggie buddy ODed?

I just think the show’s too smart for a lot of its audience. Episode 5 really made Legion a must-watch for me, but a lot of people I know gave up after ep 2 or 3, people who would’ve loved Kerry’s kicking ass even more if they’d just had the discipline to wait.

It’ll be tragic if this is canceled.

There is a lot of buzz around Legion, Dan Stevens is hot now, and FX could use a critical darling to brag on. It’ll probably get a second season.

I do wonder how long they signed Stevens for, though.
