Hello Mods,
Forgive my ignorance; I really just want to know if it’s kosher to start a thread about real plans and outlook for the Democratic party. We have tons of related threads, but even the one titled “What Should Dems do Now?” is really just a place to vent. I’d like to start some kind of base where people can share the names of organizations and/ or ideas for the fight going forward, i.e. not just a venting thread but one that really guides people and/ or gets them thinking.
Sorry if this isn’t clear; despair is hampering my thinking.
Thanks,
WOOK
Well, I sent this to our Mods to see if it’s cromulent, in light of so many adjacent threads.
What I’d like is serious, feasible suggestions and a group conversation dedicated to solutions.
I know we’re in pain; I know we all want to scream in anger and sadness and frustration. But there are several places to do that and what I’m trying to start here is some kind talk about feasible plans, personal tricks to keep one sane, names / sites of other organizations around the country that are in synch with what we’re feeling.
I’m no leader or organizer and I don’t really know what it takes to get folks to rally. That’s where you, my brilliant internet friends, come in.
I actually meant the thread you refer to to be as you say, so I’d suggest putting something like “no speculation or venting” in the title if that’s what you want to accomplish.
Thank you. Clearly I don’t know how to do this properly . . .
It’s an excellent topic for a thread IMO. For reference, I’ll reproduce the pertinent rules:
You may find some useful ideas here https://www.trainingforchange.org/
and here https://wagingnonviolence.org/
From their websites:
Training for Change is a training and capacity building organization for activists and organizers. We believe strong training and group facilitation is vital to movement building for social justice and radical change.
Since 1992, we’ve supported groups taking direct action, building strong teams and organizations, and working at the grassroots. We train thousands of people each year in North America, and also internationally, across issues and sectors – from campaign strategy retreats for anti-gentrification community groups, facilitation training for union leaders, to de-escalation skills for immigrant rights groups resisting deportation.
Waging Nonviolence is a nonprofit media organization dedicated to providing original reporting and expert analysis of social movements around the world. With a commitment to accuracy, transparency and editorial independence, we examine today’s most crucial issues by shining a light on those who are organizing for just and peaceful solutions.
Through on-the-ground movement coverage and commentary that draws on both history and the latest research, Waging Nonviolence works to advance the public’s understanding of movements and their key role in shaping politics. Our stories inspire readers to realize the powerful agency they possess.
