I know it’s bad. It obviously is. What I want to “settle” once and for all is what you’re saying we, as individuals or whatever, should do now. If it’s “give up” or “smother your kids, then kill yourself,” I want you to say it.

I’m trying to figure out how to make sense of what I KNOW is correct - that he is a horrible choice (and she - and Hillary - were at least fine choices), with the fact that a majority of voting Americans (at least by EC measure) KNOW exactly the opposite.

Since the “legitimate issue” of the Right is their desire to see everyone else enslaved or dead, that’s pointless advice.
It all seems pointless now. I am going to focus on what’s left of my years with the understanding that I live in a hostile country.

I feel similarly. But am somewhat disappointed at myself for feeling that way. I’m confident that my values are preferable to whatever I perceive from the Right today. But I do not see spending my last couple of decades in a fight to convince folk who seem oblivious to what is obvious to me.
I truly feel for my children and grandchildren. And for folk throughout the world who will be needlessly hurt.

I think this is the answer. If you can, get out. If you can’t, try to get to the more civilized parts.
If you have a relative, or loved one who voted for him, get that person out of your life.

The rich will get richer and the poor will suffer. Those who hate in this country will be emboldened to act out.
Pretty much this. We are secure financially, with all assets in cash. I intend to avoid the news in all its forms to the extent possible, as it will only result in depression and early demise.
As embarrassed as we are to have NC go Republican in the presidential election, my wife and I console ourselves that NC once again split the ticket. We will have a Democrat governor, AG, and State Superintendent of Schools. Looks like we may even have broken the Republican super-majority in the NC legislature. This doesn’t make up for the presidential election results or losing the Senate, but it helps a little bit.

Keep in mind, the people who voted for Trump voted for their version of Trump—their idea of what he is and what he represents. And that’s probably way different from your version of Trump, thanks to them listening to different media and living in different echo chambers. So what they expressed their support for may not match the image in your mind when you think “Trump.”

Getting back to the OP, they promised to punished their political opponents. Believe them and get yourself safe.
There seems to be nothing we can do because, if a man like Trump can be elected after all the horrible things he has said and done and after the crimes he has committed, then no democratic candidate may ever be elected again. Biden may be the last democratic president in history.
What I expect: The Right, now in virtually complete control, will strive to solidify power.
