I blame Jared Leto. If he’d portrayed Chapman more sympathetically (and in a better movie than Chapter 27) it totally would have helped the guy’s case. I’m only partly kidding.
This is a case of irony that is common. I did a lot of research about the murders “Leopold and Loeb” and it was ironic that two teens killing someone for no reason was not unheard of in Chicago in the 20s. Gun deaths in Chicago were very high.
There is a lot stated that “Leopold and Loeb” bought a life sentence through Clarence Darrow, but if the hadn’t been rich (well their families were rich), most likely the would’ve plea bargained for a life sentence and Leopold certainly would’ve been paroled long before he was. There was ample evidence people commiting much worse or multiple murders were paroled long before he was. But he was a “test” case.
So it does work both ways, I guess the answer SHOULD be, will Chapman repeat his crime of murder (or any other serious crime) should he be released.
