This is one of those celebrity deaths that really hits me. I knew he was ill and I knew he was recently hospitalized but I was still not prepared. I loved the man since I was a kid.
However, he made a great comment about that iffy past in the Simpsons:
“Hello. I’m Leonard Nimoy. The following tale of alien encounters is true. And by true, I mean false. It’s all lies. But they’re entertaining lies. And in the end, isn’t that the real truth? The answer is: No.”
RIP
Sad day. May he rest in peace and always be remembered.
So if you go to NASA.gov or Scientific America both are leading with stories of Nimoy’s passing and celebrating his life. I doubt any other actor would get such treatment from these sources. I think it is quite a testament to his impact as Spock. Also a pair of Astronauts have a nice video tribute to him.
The NY Daily News of all places has about 8 articles up including the lead article when I checked earlier. Not sure what that says.
I wonder what the reaction to Shatner’s death will be. He was certainly just as influential in sparking the minds of space enthusiasts. He has become a sort of parody of himself in later years, which I enjoy by the way.
But dammit, at one point he was James T. Kirk: the best captain in the starfleet. And man, was he ever great in that role.
Damn. That made me tear up.
As a Jew, he has just GOTTA get a grave stone like these:

Oh hell yeah!
I knew he based that on some rabbinical ceremony, but that’s freakin’ perfect.
Well, he’s got his DNA - maybe he’ll grow a new one for us!
I don’t think he was a kohen, so it wouldn’t be appropriate.
That’s the kinda guy Leonard Nimoy was!
Goodbye Kid Monk Baroni.
(His first starring role)
We are assembled here today to pay final respects to our honored dead. And yet it should be noted, in the midst of our sorrow, this death takes place in the shadow of new life, the sunrise of a new world; a world that our beloved comrade gave his life to protect and nourish. He did not feel this sacrifice a vain or empty one, and we will not debate his profound wisdom at these proceedings. Of my friend, I can only say this: Of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most…human.
Well, what do you know, the sutures were in MY pocket after all.
RIP.
MeTV will be paying tribute to Leonard Nimoy all weekend. Here’s the schedule.
I guess I know what I’ll be doing all weekend.

I plan on rereading his autobiographies. They’re pretty good reading, if you can find them.
I watched “Amok Time” yesterday. One of my favorite TOS episodes and a showcase for Nimoy. Planned to watch “Mirror, Mirror” next but sleepiness won out.
Hoping FXX airs his couple of Simpson appearances. All of them are classics.
