The thread title was as concise and explanatory as I was able to get it, btw.
Anyway…I’m inspired to ask after reading this article about a South African lesbian couple.
Basically, one of the women, “J,” had some eggs harvested and fertilized, and then they had the fertilized eggs implanted implanted into her partner, “B,” who carried the pregnancy to term.
What I’m wondering is: how often is this sort of procedure performed? I mean, lesbian couples using artificial insemination to conceive children is almost commonplace these days. But this is the only actual case of one woman being implanted with her partner’s ova that I’ve been able to find.
Given the current state of medical science, cost would seem to be the only really “major” stumbling block.
So…any dopers out there with some information on the subject?
