I suspect some straight people are just really, really pathetic, and can’t stand to think that the rest of us may actually be having fun when they’re not. I’m sure these sad individuals would love it if someone started a thread called “I’m so wretched being a lesbian!” or “I’m only a lesbian because I hate men!” or even “I wish I were straight, so I could have real sex!”
Oddly enough, the people I’ve encountered who seem to both hate men the most and have the most unsatisfying sex are not lesbians…they’re straight women. Not all straight women of course, not even a majority of them, but everyone I know who fits that description just happens to be a straight woman. So I suppose it’s no wonder that some heterosexuals feel insecure.
In re the original question, I vote that most lesbians are “good”. Only some are “awesome”. I’m afraid the only way for me to determine if any particular lesbians falls into that prestigious category is for her to come over to my place so we could maybe watch a Catherine Deneuve movie or something and then fool around on the futon until I feel I can give a fair evaluation. It might take a while, but I for one am willing to make the effort!

Celebrating lesbianism is fine in my book. (Also for information: “Lesvos” is more or less the modern Greek pronunciation of the island’s name in any case. beta and delta have both softened from their classical form.) It’s just that you should know that, as surely as night follows day, someone is going to chime in with the usual remarks. If you find 'em tasteless and offensive, you know how to avoid 'em: Hold your lesbian circle-jerks in lesbian-only space. Otherwise, develop a thicker skin.
