Judging by a lot of the popular opinion on the web etc, it seems to me that a large number of hetro men seem to be into watching lesbians making out.
Am I in the minority of people who don’t find this in the least bit attractive? The idea of two ladies having sex just doesn’t seem to fit. Also, I suspect that many of these “lesbians” in porno flicks are simply good at acting the part.
Thinking about it fron the other perspective, would women be turned on by two guys going at it? I suspect not.
I don’t want to come across as a porno connoisseur, I’m just curious about the views of my fellow dopers on this subject.
Gay porn for women is “twice the dicks and none of the tits” and lesbian porn for men is “twice the tits and none of the dicks.” Does that clear it up?
Never heard of slash fan fiction, have you? And both Oz and Queer of Folk had pretty sizable straight female audiences who enjoyed a bit of the old boy-on-boy action. That being said, plenty of women also enjoy lesbian porn (at least the believable stuff) because it takes certain things out of the equation– many STDs, degradation at the hands of a man – and they obviously spend twice the time pleasuring a woman, often in a very real observable way.
I find it odder that there is so much dick in plenty of hetero porn aimed at men. How straight is it to be bombarded with extreme close-ups of another man’s cock?
I have to agree with the OP on at least one point. I’ve never understood the interest that heterosexual men (and, to keep things clear, I’ll point out that I am a heterosexual man) have in lesbians in general, and lesbian porn in particular.
I just don’t get it. It’s like seeing two people enjoying themselves, and they have no interest in what I have to offer. Wait, it’s not like that, it is exactly that.

I have heard of slash fiction, Cat Fight. I take your point, but I was talking more about live action porno. You’re right, there is a lot of dick in hetro porno, but in the context of a man and a woman having sex I think a little dick action is inevitable.
(1) The average straight man likes looking at women, so why is it odd that a lot of them like looking at two women having sex without another man to interrupt the fantasy?
(2) Similarly, most straight women like looking at men, so why would it be odd for them to like looking at two men together, without another woman competing for their attention?
Of course, with sex, every possible permutation is possible, but I suspect that the smallest group would be straight men who like watching gay male sex. However, even with that, there are probably a few guys who don’t want to have gay sex, but like watching it.

I think this has been mentioned in other threads, but I think part of the appeal is in there being no expectations or comparisons for the viewer. If I’m a guy watching two girls, not only might I feel like I’m being let in on a supersecretsexy time that’s normally private, there’s no on-screen competition.
Of course, most lesbian scenes do progress to hetero, don’t they? Or at least I know pornstars who only do lesbian stuff make much less.
I really just think that men like looking at pretty women. And to be honest I seriously doubt that most of the more popular lesbian websites actually use real lesbians.
As a hetero male I can’t explain why I think it is hot but it does get a rise out of me.

I rarely come across lesbian porn that makes me say, “Hey, I’ve done that!” Their nails are usually way too long, and they certainly don’t look like they’re into it. 9 times out of 10, if I was with a girl who had the look on her face of the gay-for-pay porno lesbians, I’d jump ship, because she’s clearly not interested.

Lesbian porn is a mainly visual stimulus. Not only two women (as has been referred to above), but women ostensibly in the throws of passion. Consider two pictures of the same face, one expressionless, one smiling. The latter is generally more appealing–womens having sex is that much more so.
Straight porn has elements of the above (i.e., hot chicks), but there’s an … empathy(?) component. Not sure if that’s the right word, but I only have two cents.
Originally, I think the idea was to imagine you were in that guy’s place, taking the active role. They would often edit it to totally de-emphasise the guy in the scene as much as possible to facilitate that.
Whereas with two women, it’s usually for imagining you are there in the room watching, taking the passive role.
There is variation within that, deliberately done so that there’s something for all tastes. To each their own, after all.
There’s no rules anymore. There was a standardised format that turned all porn into bland copycat shite for a very long time, but diversity opened up big time with the internet.
My many gigs of gay porn says your assumption is erroneous. And I’m not alone in my “pervy” inclinations. I know lots of (straight, bisexual, lesbian) women who quite enjoy live action gay porn, as well as slash fiction, m/m erotica, gay romances, etc. Heck, there’s a massive LJ comm with nearly 5000 members dedicated exclusively to videos and pictures of “boy touching.”
As for me, I enjoy gay porn (which is pretty much all primarily directed to gay men) not because there’s no female competition. I like it because I like men, and I think the things gay (and bisexual and straight) men do when they’re together is super, super hot.
I love man on man action and lesbian porn. Like Astorian, though, I require that they be attractive. I mean, I wouldn’t want to see Kathy Bates and Dame Judi Dench going at it, however much I respect them as actresses.
