One of the bits in a recent movie is a bit in which a female gay couple enjoys watching male porn as a sexual stimulant.
Now I am very familiar with the idea of heterosexual males enjoying watching “girl on girl” but is this premise something that commonly occurs in real life? If so, why? (Yes, I know the answer given in the movie.) And if so is the converse of gay males enjoying girl on girl porn also true?

Some straight men watch girl/girl porn, and some straight women watch gay male porn, but I can’t imagine gay men or women (whether single or couples) watching opposite-sex porn.
I’m not exactly sure what to search on, but there have been numerous threads in IMHO (or maybe MPSIMS) about tastes in watching porn. Many of the posts were by females.
Basically, every variant is accounted for when it comes to peoples’ tastes.
Some women do like the concept of two men having sex.
The most obvious example is slash fiction – fiction portraying two males, usually characters from media (the earliest I’m aware of was called “Kirk/Spock”). The demographics (from slash conventions) show that the largest group of its fans are heterosexual women.
I’d say the percentage of women who like male/male is lower than the percentage of men who like female/female, but there are certainly women who say they find gay porn erotic.
I’ve known a couple of lesbian firefighters who watched gay male porn.
It’s not strictly true that lesbians aren’t attracted to men. They don’t want to be in relationships with men for sure. Who they fall in love with and live with is a separate issue from what gives them a momentary tingle.
There’s also the fact that men in gay porn are usually prettier, better groomed, and better hung than your average straight guy in real life. If all the men were as pretty as that, maybe they wouldn’t mind the occasional tumble. Or at least it would cut down on the common “Men are just way more trouble than they’re worth” sentiment held by the lesbians I knew. I worked with a woman in an LTR with another woman who basically said, “Sure, I’m a lesbian, but I wouldn’t kick Mel Gibson* out of bed.”
*This was a good twenty years ago, so feel free to substitute Taylor Lautner if Mel’s image makes you nauseous.
Well in this particular movie The character who seemed to be more enjoying the movie indeed reveals that she wouldn’t mind a tumble with the right male, even though she clearly identifies herself as gay. The scene may have been meant as foreshadowing this particular character’s ability to find a penis attractive even if females are who she would love.
I’ve definitely heard cultural references to lesbians (especially young/hipsterish ones) who like watching gay male porn. Whether watch in the sense of “enjoy” or in the sense of “get off to,” I’m not certain.
As for the converse question, let’s just say there were a few scenes in Bound I wouldn’t have minded reviewing.
I am not a lesbian but I can hazard an opinion on why some women enjoy gay porn; unlike straight porn with men, there is often an emphasis on the facial expressions of the men.
In straight porn, I know the women are faking it most of the time and I get tired of NEVER seeing the guy’s face and his expression of enjoyment. At least with gay porn, a man’s orgasm is substantially real and instead of the cum-shot, they often cut to a facial shot so it – at least for me – comes across as more sincere in depicting the enjoyment.
I don’t see it as any different from the straight guys who want the male performer to be well-endowed–which, based on the actual numbers in porn, is probably pretty high.
As a gay man who does event photography at various GLBT events, there is a running joke that there are only 3 decent girl/girl videos in existence. Apparently, most lesbian porn is by straight girls who have no idea what they are doing, faking it for their presumably straight male viewers. The dykes are not amused.
Also, they find gay male porn more interesting, becaude the actors actually are into it and know what they are doing (the strapons typically do not snap off, however . Of course, the folks I am around tend to the kinkier side of things, and I more than occasionally see pairings between a lesbian who is good with a flogger and a gayboy with a cute tush.
P.S. - about terminology, I do know Lesbians who consider the word “dyke” degrading and offensive and I know Dykes who consider the term "lesbian archaic and offensive.
Most are good sports about it.

For purely sexual attraction, with the lesbians I knew, my impression was that good looks temporarily overrode good sense and long term planning. I can’t think of anyone who wanted to be in a LTR with a man. Because that would be weird. :eek:

Straight women watching gay male porn makes sense for the same reason that straight men watching lesbian porn makes sense. As a straight man, I like seeing women having sex, and two women is better than one woman. Now, I understand that for some men, the appeal of porn is to have someone in the porno they can identify with, and I can understand that, too, even though that’s not my taste. But a lesbian watching gay male porn is neither seeing people she would be inclined to have sex with (unless it really is just the “more picky when it comes to men” thing), nor someone with whom she’d identify, which makes this more puzzling.
Back when I worked in a shop that sold a lot of porn I used to asked my friends what type they liked so that when it was time to take the old editions off the shelf, I could find them happy homes. A lesbian friend requested the gay male ones. So obviously this does happen in real life, though I have no idea how common it is.
Could it maybe be that the lesbians who are into gay male porn are such that they may have been gay whether they were a guy or a girl? There is actually a really good feminist porn site that has a lot of gay guy porn. As for myself, I am lesbian, leaning to “maybe could be bisexual” (if the girls I’d liked had been boys I’d feel the same about them 100%) and I like watching gay male porn.
