Is there a preferable way to express a statement in a case like this? that is, a ‘reduction’ of the regular term, or an ‘increase’ of the um negated? term? What is the name of ‘un’ as a prefix? Anyway, is it better to say one is more uncomfortable, or less comfortable, or is it a matter of what the speaker feels?
If you were already uncomfortable, you could be made more uncomfortable (but less uncomfortable is a double negative, not that that’s always a bad thing)
If you were already comfortable, you could be made less comfortable.
RIGHT!
Less IS More.
If I were in a comfortable position and the comfort decreased, I’d say that I’d become less comfortable.
If I were uncomfortable and the situation worsened, I’d say that I’d become more uncomfortable.
So, to me at least, it’s a matter of the starting comfort level.
