Let me do my job, dammit!!! (a bit long)

Given how expensive insurance is nowadays, I’m not surprised that people try and find ways to cut costs. No problem. But listen, that’s MY job. I am your insurance broker. It is my job to represent you, to protect you, to get you the best available price, and to make sure that under no circumstances are you EVER fucked over by the insurance company!!

But some of my clients make it pretty hard…

Take Client X. Client X has a company, and we insure his property, auto and liability. Client X’s son (18 years old, with a G2* license) buys a new car. Client X gives him one of his business pink slips and tells him “Now you have insurance”. Off goes Son of Client X, and rear ends another car, causing a 4 car pile up. Son of Client X then decides “Wow, that was stupid. Maybe if I just leave no one will notice”. Guess what Sparky? PEOPLE NOTICED!

So now they’re on the horn to me. And I’m on the horn to the insurance company, trying to think up some way to provide them coverage, so that if any injuries come out of the woodwork, this guy won’t lose everything he’s worked 20 years to build. This is keeping me up at night.

The real pisser? I could have added this kid on to the commercial policy with a minimum of hassle. Draw up a paper lease. Re-register the vehicle in the company name. There’s about 10 different ways of doing this!!!

I get so tired of telling people this. I’m your broker. Tell me everything. Let ME put the right spin on it for the insurance company. And if I screw it up, at least you still have coverage. As long as you don’t get screwed, I DON’T CARE! That’s what I get paid for. And since I don’t work on commission, I get paid no matter what your premium is. So I try and get it as low as possible to keep you happy!!

Say it with me people: The insurance company is evil! The insurance broker is good! Especially Dante!

A G2 license is the second step in the Ontario licensing program.

That really sucks, Dante. Can’t help some people help themselves, eh? If this guy is screwed, he has only himself to blame, though. Most adults know (even if they try to forget at times) that they have to deal with insurance properly to keep their asses firmly covered at all times. Of course, you always have the people who think they’re getting away with something.

Hey, speaking of insurance, our car insurance rates got frozen here in Alberta (no, not due to the -35°C temps:D). Is the same thing happening in Ontario?

Yep, the liberals froze them when they came into power. It’s a little misleading though, because if your insurance company raised their rates after your last renewal, but before the liberals froze the rates, then you’re still going to get an increase on this renewal. FYI.

I give your rant a 8/10 because I am so there right with you.

Aries, who works for a large P&C insurance broker.
