Let the GOP backbiting and finger-pointing begin!

Can any good come of this for the Republican Party? I tend to think its primary/caucus electorate, as conservative as it is, will pin the blame for this year’s loss almost solely on Romney himself, and will want a lifelong-true-believer conservative four years hence.

And, all things being equal, maybe lose again.

No different than any other year.

Chris Christie seems to be getting the worst of it, though I can’t imagine he didn’t realize that was going to happen.

Over at Reason, the libertarian-Republicans are taking a poke at the Tea Party: The Taming of the Tea Party

Hmm. Bit of a puzzler. If you’ve shot yourself in the foot, and have one bullet left…do you shoot yourself in the other foot, or put another round in the first one?

This one pisses me off most of all. I live in New Jersey, and was blown away by how well Christie handled this disaster (he was really good with Irene, too.) The man hasn’t slept since this all started. He’s out there working himself ragged and Republicans are going to attack him for cooperating with the President in order to save lives. Such utter bullshit. I’d be even madder if I thought Christie gave a shit, but he clearly has other things on his mind right now.

Christie pretty clearly went out of his way to praise Obama on national TV. I don’t think that really “saved lives” in any meaningful sense.

So, they’re mad he didn’t play politics and downplay his true feelings. Right. That’s a lot better. It was refreshing to hear true thoughts without thought to how it would effect votes…something that happens FAR too little in today’s political landscape.

An interesting overview of the GOP’s conundrum: http://www.cnn.com/2012/11/09/politics/gop-disarray/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

Was he not playing politics? Certainly that’s possible, but I think its at least equally likely he was playing to New Jersey voters, who voted for Obama by 17 points (a larger margin the '08) and whom he would like to relect him next year.

Or maybe he was just actually grateful that the President came on down and stepped right up to the plate.

Rather than just flying over and catching up on the whole Stormy thing on Netflicks later.

Even when the 2 rape guys got creamed, the extreme right is doubling down:

Clueless behavior that will keep on giving gifts to the Democrats in the future. IMHO Romney was at least aware that even more troglodytes with that (and other) peculiar views of banning abortion, even in rape cases, would had been exposed and defeated in the election if abortion had been a central campaign issue.

Well, it might work. My husband and I are both as hard left liberal as it gets, but we both will consider voting for him. I’d even consider him for President. He has no compunction about calling racist fundamentalists on their bullshit… see here.

Personally I don’t think he gave a shit about politics from the second Sandy hit, which is what he said when asked about touring New Jersey with Mitt Romney. He didn’t have time, he had a job to do and he was grateful for Obama’s help. I don’t know if you are in New Jersey or were affected by this disaster, but personally the only impression I got from him is that he really cares about us. I’m not the only one here who feels that way. He stepped up to lead in a major way.

Clinton/Christie 2016?

Hopefully this hasn’t been mentioned in this thread yet, but I loved Alec Baldwin’s comment: “If someone asks if the ‘rape guy’ won and you have to ask ‘which one?’ there is something wrong with your party.”

Heheh. That IS good.

Wow, there was no better way to handle that question. I find it odd that the right is now denouncing Christie for essentially the same thing that they praised him for before: speaking plainly, and not tolerating idiots.

The more I see of him, the more I like him. Being a bit unfiltered may make his presidential run difficult, but I could see myself voting for him. Perhaps after the GOP gets done purging itself after this round, it’ll look more like his party? ehh, I’m dreaming.

including mitt’s son saying he never wanted to be the president anyway.

What a bizarre claim. What the hell could he have done to act more like he wanted to be President above all else in the world?

The dude spent seven years of his life doing virtually nothing except run for president. He started running for 2012 the minute he conceded to McCain. I’m pretty sure he wanted it.
