Really? Where’d you hear that? That’s pretty damned bad.
How long before Terri gets canonized as a saint?
That’s all true, I’ve read it elsewhere.
archmichael, Terri is one death, three miracles, a beatification and maybe one or two other things short of sainthood.
DINGDINGDINGDINGDING
We have a win-nah!
Perhaps he’s drawn the wrong conclusion. Michael simply likes fishing, or won the Heisman for Southern California in 1968.
I just had a disturbing thought.
A few years ago, I was made aware of the existance of various services for the parents of deceased babies and children that create little dolls and other things in memory of the child. I wonder if Terri’s parents will do something similar if they don’t get to bury her as they see fit.
Me too! Me too!
Is there a space on my living will for that?
Several sources, but primarily Jay Wolfson’s Guardian ad Litem report, written for Jeb Bush.
About three years later, without the apparent knowledge of her parents, Theresa and Michael sought assistance in becoming pregnant through an obstetrician who specialized in fertility services. For over a year, Theresa and Michael received fertility services and counseling in order to enhance their strongly held desire to have a child. By this time, Theresa’s weight had dropped even further, to 110 pounds. She was very proud of her fabulous figure and her stunning appearance, wearing bikini bathing suits for the first time and taking great pride in her improved good looks. Testimony and photographs bear witness to these facts.

Michael Schiavo, on Theresa’s and his own behalf, initiated a medical malpractice lawsuit against the obstetrician who had been overseeing Theresa’s fertility therapy. In 1993, the malpractice action concluded in Theresa and Michael’s favor…
Thanks, Shayna.
This thread sometimes moves so quickly that i can’t keep track of everything, so i don’t know if this has been posted yet.
The Terri Schiavo case has had the unexpected effect of uniting most Americans, whether Republicans or Democrats, around a consensus that the government should stay out of families’ life and death decisions.
“You don’t see many 80 percents in polls nowadays,” said pollster Andrew Kohut of the Pew Research Center.
He was referring to a CBS poll last week which found that 82 percent of Americans felt Congress should have stayed out of Schiavo’s case.
<snip>
The poll also showed 75 percent of respondents said end-of-life issues were not the province of government. Another poll this month by Time magazine found that 70 percent of respondents thought President Bush should not have intervened in the case and 65 percent said he and Congress were motivated more by politics than values and principles.

Republicans who uphold principles of limited government, states’ rights and the sanctity of the marital bond were upset their leaders had become involved. Democrats seemed upset that their leaders had mostly stayed silent on the issue.
“America has united on this under the banner of ‘a pox on both your houses.’ This is an intensely personal issue and people of all political stripes were repulsed at the idea of the government getting involved,” Zogby said.
I just had a disturbing thought.

I don’t even want to think about what these sick, twisted people would do if they could get their hands on Terri’s remains. From the same GAL report linked in my previous post:
Testimony provided by members of the Schindler family included very personal statements about their desire and intention to ensure that Theresa remain alive. Throughout the course of the litigation, deposition and trial testimony by [sic] members of the Schindler family voiced the disturbing belief that they would keep Theresa alive at any and all costs. Nearly gruesome examples were given, eliciting agreement by family members that in the event that Theresa should contract diabetes and subsequent gangrene in each of her limbs, they would agree to amputate each limb, and would then, were she to be diagnosed with heart disease, perform open heart surgery. There was additional, difficult testimony that appeard to establish that despite the sad and undesireable condition of Theresa, the parents still derived joy from having her alive, even if Theresa might not be at all aware of her environment given the persistent vegetative state. Within the testimony, as part of the hypotheticals presented, Schindler family members stated that even if Theresa had told them of her intention to have artificial nutrition withdrawn, they would not do it. Throughout this painful and difficult trial, the family acknowleded that Theresa was in a diagnosed persistent vegetative state.
Random observations on human nature.
While protestors who passionately appeared to support the Schindler Family now ignore their requests to go home, behave peacefully and prayerfully, and stop being arrested…continue to stay or leave handcuffed…
While legal and religious experts debate the disposition of the body, burial vs cremation which contrary to latest legal action by the Schindlers is fully allowable under Catholic doctrine…
While the Schindler family struggles to gain control over the soon-to-be remains of their dying daughter…
While FoxNews sits out in front of the hospice and reports on Terri Schiavo’s urine output and two doses of 5mil morphine suppositories…
And the strains of the old familiar hymn “Amazing Grace” are heard mingled with shouts of “you’ll go to hell!” in front of signs painted representing blood dripped words…
Michael Schiavo, who has sought to carry out his wife’s wishes, to keep her private matters private, who has been accused of greed and abuse…
has fearlessly stepped up to the plate and ordered an autopsy to be performed on Terri’s body to prove the extent of her brain damage and relieve himself of false charges.
A guilty man does not initiate the very evidence that could condemn him…
You are the move you make.

Having interviewed Terri’s father on her radio show (“Dr. Carole’s Couch” on voiceamerica.com), Dr. Lieberman uncovered the fact that Terri’s husband, Michael Schiavo, fits the profile of a wife-abuser
Wait a minute! She made a diagnosis based on an interview with MS’s bitter, stranged in-law? And somebody is taking *that *seriously?
Did I get that right?

Why yes, yes you did.
And for tonight’s parting gifts you will receive, a year’s supply of bullshit and very little else, because frankly, there is nothing else left. Sorry.
Maybe someone can answer this-but why does Terri have such severe acne?
Republicans who uphold principles of limited government, states’ rights and the sanctity of the marital bond were upset their leaders had become involved. Democrats seemed upset that their leaders had mostly stayed silent on the issue.
“America has united on this under the banner of ‘a pox on both your houses.’ This is an intensely personal issue and people of all political stripes were repulsed at the idea of the government getting involved,” Zogby said.
And as somebody (don’t remember who - as mhendo said, this thread moves so quickly) said, the Republicans are ducking and pretending they said nothing. I see no reason to let them get away with it.
And frankly, the fact that the Democrats are too spineless to stand up irritates the hell out of me too, and I’ve let my Representative and (one Democratic) Senator know that. Wouldn’t it be nice if this finally spurs the realignment of political parties that’s been due since about 1992?
Aaaaaah WAAAAAA to get in bed with spammers!
<brilliant rest of post snipped>
This is the most brilliant post since the Spanish Inquisition post 700-some posts back (possibly in a different thread?)
(And, by the way, "They’re selling the mailing list!? WTF?)

Maybe someone can answer this-but why does Terri have such severe acne?
Chocolate-flavored tube gruel?
I made the mistake of turning on Fox news and good ol Dobson was on.They showed a picture of the man who murdered the girl in Florida with the headline Fed By State, others, etc. Then Terri-Not Fed By State. I thought you guys were exaggerating about Fox. wo.
The Schindlers have filed an emergency petition asking for the full court to hear yet another appeal. No mention in the story on what basis. I think the whole family has gone completely nuts.
In other news, Bay Buchanan on Crossfire is saying the federal government should send in soldiers to “rescue” Terri.
A friend of mine remarked not too long ago that she thinks this country is headed for a new Civil War, with the ultra-conservative evangelical christian fundamentalists on one side and everyone who doesn’t agree with them 100% on the other. Listening to the rhetoric being flung about on this case makes me wonder if the idea is moving from the realm of unbelievable exaggeration to the realm of possibility. May this just be the after-midnight cynicism talking.
