Let The Quest for the Grail Begin!

Quack quack quack!

I bet Modano and company got up this morning and were still wondering what the fuck happened last night.

There’s also a bunch of guys from Vancouver wondering the same thing after they got demolished by Minnesota by a score of 7-2.

I’d be betting on the Canucks coming out in the next game and beating the stink out of the Wild with no mercy or quarter given and then going on to play Anaheim ( and win  ).

The winner in the west can then look forward to playing either the Devils or the Senators with the Sens being the definate favourites in their matchup. The Devils are great on D but haven’t got anything close to the firepower that the Sens will bring to their series.

I can smell that all Canadian final coming up.

I think that I could become the greatest goalie in the history of the game, at least until the league changes that STUPID rule about the net not being able to move. Just turn around and lightly shake the goal for the entire game. Anything that goes past won’t count even if the goal is just shaking a bit. Seriously, there were 2 goals called back because of this stupid rule. One would have saved everyone about 2 hours of OT in game one, the other last night maybe would have tied the series. There needs to be one or 2 magnets added to the back of the net to keep that silly motion from happening.

I don’t really have a problem with the officiating from last night, but seriously, how can they not call that whack to Morrows’ face just before the Ducks GWG? Holding and obstruction weren’t called against the Ducks at all, and I understand not calling that shit in the last 5-10 minutes of a game, but not calling an obvious high sticking?

Now, I kind of hope that the Wild win their series, can you imagine how exciting the obstruction laden, and trap filled series between the Ducks and Wild would be? To quote a previous post “defensive hockey boner”.

Just kidding about the Wild. While that backhand goal that Brunette scored was great, I’ll be hoping for the all Canadian final as well, maybe another kick in the ratings shorts will convince the league to wise up, but I somehow doubt it.

I would love a Canadian final, but the Sens still have to get by Brodeur. He can win this series by himself. Oh, and Vancouver still has to win 5 more games.

DUCKS! DUCKS! DUCKS!

oooOOOooo what a fun game. The crowd goes wild–he shoots, he scores, the crowd goes crazy loud!

I had to wait until I got home to see the 2 disputed goals. I still think that rule about the goal being just a little up means “no goal” is stupid and should be changed. The second disputed goal sure looked like he kicked it in (I know, that debate is moot since the good guy won) Woohoo!

There was a huge fox paw during the game though. While we were waiting for that first disputed goal decision (while seemed to take forever) they played the jeopardy theme. So when the ref made the decision it was only “no goal”, it SHOULD have been “what is no goal?”. Definitely bad form.

Boy I can’t wait for the next round. I sure hope I can get tickets, cause gosh that was fun.

Time to make this thread Pit-worthy for just a second:

FUCKIN’ COCKSUCKER BASTARD TICKET PRICE SETTERS!!!

After paying 95 for my lower level seat for Friday’s clinching Game 5, I just noticed that Round 3 tix are 125 each for lower level. Yikes!

In any case, Patrick Lalime and Dan Cloutier are not Stanley Cup Champion goalies. 'Nuff said.

Uh…that’s two minutes in the box. See rule 55c in the NHL Rulebook.

I’d be more than pleased to see Brodeur go 1 on 5 with the Sens…

Can anyone imagine how fucking boring a Ducks vs Devils final would be? Can you say TRAP? They could show that to prisoners as a form of punishment except that the Geneva conventions probably forbid such extremely brutal torture.

On the other hand… having Vancouver play Ottawa in the final would be hockey at it’s best.

No way Feynn, I want either Wyld or Ducks vs. the Beloved Devils… refer to my earlier post in the thread concerning a “defensive hockey boner”.

Hopefully Scotty will dump one of those glory homo Ottawa fag babies on their ass like he did to Lindros a few years back.

Will this thread turn into a USA v. Canada pissing contest if that’s how the finals line up? Well, I’d better go get hydrated…

Sorry guys, been out of town.

Well, shit.

That’s all I got to say about that. I never thought this years’ Cup champion would come out of the east… but it’s New Jersey’s to lose at this point… with Ottawa in second.

You Devil’s fans are a confident bunch aren’t you?

Remember these names… Hossa, Havlatt, and Alfredsson. They will haunt your dreams.

The Devils have had it pretty easy so far, their admittedly outstanding defense has only needed to shut down single lines in past series whereas the Senators have depth to spare and three lines that can almost score at will. They have the best collection of right wingers in the game, an outstanding power play, and they are going to kick the Devil’s asses all the way back to Jersey.

Wyld - I don’t think we’ll get into any kind of USA vs Canada pissing match although we might get into a Jersey vs Ottawa pissing match.

Didn’t the Sens make the Devils their bitch all season? I can’t see why that should change now.

Go ahead you pansy boys and discount the Ducks. Everyone else has so far and lookie how bad they have done.

Ducks look good, they make the most of their shots on goal. The only thing they need to improve is that they need to be more effective during power plays.

‘cept fo’ the fact that this is the Stanley Cup Playoffs…

The Senawhores do have a lot more firepower than the doormats the proud and magnificent Devils rolled over in the first two rounds. However, for whatever reason, I readily see Lalime blowing it, all efforts this current postseason notwithstanding. On the Olympic-sized rinks, I think the 'Whores would present a major problem to any team in the league, but I think if the Scions of Satan can continue to play their game, it’ll be close each game, and garbage goals will win it; if this is in fact the case, I call on my boys to pull through.

Also, Ottawa the city is cold. :stuck_out_tongue:

Whatever happened to giving the referees the discretion to make a judgement call in a game? Both of the goals that were waved off in the Ducks-Stars series should have counted IMHO. However, by the absolute letter of the law, the calls (no goal) were correct. They were not materially affected by the movement of the goal, but the law says that since the net was not “fast” to the ice, the goal doesn’t count.
On the other hand, Brendan Morrow’s successful and blatant attempt to direct the puck into the net with his skate shouldn’t have counted, again IMO. In the good old days, the puck had to be directed into the net by a stick. If it deflected off a skate, it was not a goal. The rule was changed because unintentional deflections off of skates were being ruled no goal. If the officials were given a little discretion, allowed to use their own judgement, the rule change wouldn’t have been necessary. Morrow clearly was trying to score by directing the puck with his skate. But since it wasn’t “a distinct kicking motion”, the goal was allowed to stand. The point is to put the puck in the net with your stick, which Morrow clearly did not do. This isn’t soccer. If you intentionally use your foot, whether kicking or re-directing the puck, it should not count. But the NHL has emasculated the officials by taking judgement out of the game.
BTW: After the Ducks eliminated Detroit, I must confess visions of the Cup started to look very real to this Stars fan. I have to hand it to Anaheim, they were ferocious. I don’t think I’ve seen a team play that hard, that committed, for that long since the Devils beat Detroit for their first Cup. The Stars couldn’t match their intensity for any length of time. I’m impressed, and I hope the Ducks go all the way. At least my team will have been beaten by the best.

Maybe I’ll feel like talking some baseball trash after a few more Jack Daniels’

Wyld… just admit it. The “Senawhores” scare you don’t they?

And what in the ever loving fuck happened in Minnesota last night?

The Wild’s drive for the Cup has to end tonight in Vancouver.

I think it’s time to make some burnt offerings to the hockey gods…

deb… the Ducks have impressed the hell out of me so far and I’ve been cheering on their behalf. Having them beat Detroit and Dallas has made them one of my favourite teams.

But if it comes down to Vancouver playing the Ducks in the western final I’ll have to go with the team from across the big rocks.

We can still be friends… right??

I have only three words to say:

GO SENS GO!

Gotta love hockey in May! Woo Hoo!

Feynn how about if you end up having to root for a Canadian team, that during the game we treat each other like mortal enemies, and between games we are friends who harass the other on their terrible taste in sports franchises

SO Guess what… yep, I scored tickets for the next round. I have 2 tickets each for games 3 and 6. I can’t go to game 4 since it is on a Friday nite, blast. So my brother and I will be there to watch the good guys once again triumph.

Ducks! Ducks! Ducks!

Feynn, it’s gonna be offense vs. defense again (although Langenbrunner has decided to be The Man this playoff year). I can appreciate the talent of the Sens, but I’m not “scared” of them.

By the way, last two games in the MIN/VAN series:
Wyld - 12
'Nucks - 3

USA…USA…

Y’know why I’ve been avoiding this thread? Because ‘hope’ and ‘Minnesota sports fan’ are mutually exclusive.

And while I know deep down in my bones that there is no way in hell the Wild will ever beat the Ducks*…well. Yeah. That stupid H word is rearing its ugly head. Stupid H word. :frowning:

And you know that my mere appearance in this thread has jinxed my boys, right? Y’all had better appreciate my efforts, dammit!
*“Oh, yeah. I’m a Duck. I’m bad. QUACK! Take that, motherfucker!” Stupidest concept for a sports team EVER.
