Lets all March forth and rant

I did some research on 2nd doses because the site I want to go to for mine is only doing them Thursdays through Saturdays. I got my first Pfizer dose on a Monday and the earliest I could get the 2nd would be a Thursday (day 24). The CDC says not getting it exactly on the 21st day (or Moderna on the 28th) is fine. They suggest that you get it at least within 6 weeks.

I have bought pump bottles where the bottle has a regular screw cap on it when it’s on the shelf, and the pump portion is attached to the side (typically wrapped in plastic). When the consumer gets it home, they remove the pump from the side of the bottle, unscrew the cap, and screw in the pump. Since the pump is packaged off to the side of the bottle, the pump spout can be extremely long without making it difficult for bottles to be tightly packed next to each other. That’s one solution I’ve seen “in the wild”.

The weird thing is, I’ve never seen any raccoons around my property. Squirrels, geese, and deer, but no raccoons.

You could try a bird “tanglefoot” product, which creates an uncomfortably sticky roosting surface, or so I am told. If a pigeon(s) are landing all over your terrace, this might deter you from enjoying it as well, but I don’t know if the product bothers humans as much as birds.

I am planning on trying some to deter barn swallows from nesting in my porch eaves. While it’s fun to watch the nestlings develop, it’s not as enjoyable to clean up all that bird poop.

I’d love to deal with barn swallow poop.

As opposed to woodpeckers.

Why did I just have a flashback to Ricky Gervais on The Daily Show?

Stupid insomnia. Work on Tuesday is gonna suck.

Trouble is, I like the other birds. The darn pigeons could plausibly accuse me of being an avian racist of the columbidacist sort. Well, I’ll stand by this one.

What is so attractive to your birdie interloper? Food? Water? Whatever it is about your terrace that it likes & wants, take that away - if only temporarily.

Or does the pigeon have a nest?

She seems to like the plants that I grow in pots. Weird, as they are not grasses (poaceae or gramineae says Wikipedia, well, OK). I have put skewers in the pots, they look like punk hedgehogs, I hoped she would not land there, but to no avail so far, she lands on the floor and then panzers her way into the pots. Did I mention she shits all over the place? Is there a way to have her get severe constipation?

This thread doesn’t have much punch to it because, thus far at least, March has been quite kind. We’ve had gorgeous weather, the vaccine supply is being steadily ramped up, a generous stimulus check will soon be on the way, and we have a compassionate human being in the oval office.

Being a pit thread, however, let me get into the spirit of things by pitting all of you who have unfairly picked on such a lovely March! Shame on you! :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I have to have an ultrasound today to see if my recent flank pains are kidney stones. Apparently, I have to arrive with a full bladder, so my instructions are to drink two 32-ounce bottles of water starting about an hour before the test.

That’s half a gallon. I have trouble gagging down half of a 16-ounce bottle of water at one go. And since the lab is about an hour away, I’ll be on the road when I start chugging. I hope I don’t ralph up all the water in my car.

The worst part after that will be when they are pushing on you with the ultrasound wand while you really have to go pee.

Either way, I hope it’s not kidney stones. And if it is, I hope they resolve quickly and as painlessly as possible.

As for me, things are going OK so far. The funeral is scheduled for Saturday. We are going down tonight to help clean up and set up things. I’m not sure what all we will need to do. My husband is holding up but I see how sad he gets in the evenings. He likes talking about her but not about how he feels about it all. I’m letting him tell me what he wants. Grief is weird and death is hard.

Remember when Medicare commercials used to be over by early December? When did that change?

I bought some dogs and brats (and buns) during my weekend shopping to throw on the grill sometime this week, which turned out to be tonight. Brought the food in off the grill, pulled out the hot dog buns… and the whole package is moldy! WTF? I guess we’re doing bunless tonight.

Can’t you use a slice of toasted bread rolled up around a dog?

The weather the last few days has been great! I opened the windows yesterday and it was terrific to have some fresh air.

But.

I live in a semi-rural area. And these are the first few good-weather days of pre-spring. Which means half the neighborhood has decided they need to burn their leaves. Now.

So today my sinuses and eyes demanded that I shut the windows again and turn on the AC to clear the smoke out. Boo.

Nice to see gas prices going up🙄.

Ok you people who make decisions about advertising trends, I need a few words with you.
