Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 75 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 94 with maybe rain/tstorms/apocalypse later this afternoon or not. I get to hang in the near forty today as I continue the never endin’ site monitorin’. Rah.
OK, so this is the new MMP. Some think I should have some kind of topic to start us off but I figure it’ll be hijacked in the first reply so consider this pre-hijacked. Whatever. I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, alas and alack, 'tis Moanday so irk purtification must commence. Le sigh.
Dang, swampy, if you hadn’t been so quick on the draw, I’d have had a topic. Just for that, I won’t mention it.
OK, maybe I will.
We did the big kitchen remodel and appliance replacement just under 11 years ago. All of the then-new appliances were from GE - not due to any brand fetish, but because they all came in the right color, because that’s the best way to buy appliances, right?
No matter. If you recall, a few months ago, our microwave went tits up, and I sustained a nasty cut on my right index finger while replacing it. Then this weekend, the fridge just died, altho, to be fair, the light still worked! I never considered calling a repair guy since I really hated that fridge anyway. Over the last year or so, I was sorta-casually looking at possible replacements, and lucky for us, one that I preferred was readily available. (**FCD **doesn’t like it because it doesn’t have ice thru the door - you have to open the drawer and scoop it out. Poor baby…)
So, which will be next: dishwasher or stove? Fortunately, neither will be a panic replacement. I hear tell that one can wash dishes by hand! And with a microwave and toaster oven, I can keep us fed without too much hassle - in fact, while we were remodeling, those were my main cooking devices for a couple of months.
Place yer bets now - dishwater hands or microwave burrito overload?? * <cue Jeopardy theme>*
Eating granola to get my low blood sugar up, then I must scrape off a few layers, then head to irk in the Batcave. Life is so exciting, especially Moandays…
It’s another cool, sunny morning.
The gas company raised my monthly budget payment, I think they are expecting a cold winter because they were already charging too much based on last year’s usage.
FCM My money is on the dishwasher going belly up first. Stock up on Palmolive so you can avoid the dreaded ‘dish pan hands’.
I can live without a dishwasher, but not a microwave. Although my new dishwasher kicks @ss and I love it. I vote for replacing both. Microwaves are fairly inexpensive. You can get a decent over the range model for under $200. I think mine is a GE also.
It is 55 degrees this morning. Perfect sleeping weather. I was dead to the world all night. zzzzzz
I still have the same appliances that I bought with the house (new) in 1997. Given that I am a bacthelor who cooks only when forced, washes only when out of clothes/socks/jeans, and doesn’t mind scooping ice cubes, I’d have to say the microwave may be first. Or maybe the dishwasher, it lost a bracket sometime last year so it is a little wobbly and the trays come out on their own when the door is opened and occasionally fall out of the machine…
Been thinking about remodeling my kitchen next year, putting in granite countertops and new cabinets and maybe new appliances…but then I look at the estimates on-line for what it would cost…
Still cheaper than doing the Bathroom remodelling I’ve thought about. We shall see.
Meanwhile, back to irk, such as it is and what there is of it.
We were late jumping on the microwave bandwagon but once we did -------- I could drop the normal kitchen stove as long as I have the microwave and the outside smoker.
We have a new microwave - the choice is between dishwasher and stove (ergo dishpan hands or microwave burritos)
Personally, I expect it to be the dishwasher also because it gets used more and it’s got moving parts. Since I have the stove, microwave, toaster oven, rotisserie, and smoker, not to mention the grill, the stove gets frequent breaks. Oh yeah, and you can order in meals, but not clean dishes! OK, maybe you can, but you know what I mean…
Mowage is done - ditch and the lawns, but not the path thru the woods because I forgot till after I’d put the mower away and I didn’t feel like backing it out again. Nor did I weed-whack because the whacker battery needs to be charged. I’ll do that tomorrow. Now I’m showered and dressed in non-sweaty attire.
What to do now??
Amazingly enough, my ad offering the dead fridge got 2 responses, and the first guy is coming this afternoon to get it. Which is a good thing, because the second person’s email isn’t working. Dunno if he’s going to try to repair it, use it for parts, or store a dead body in it, but I don’t care. This means we don’t have to pay to take it to the dump! YAY!
60 out there right now, projected high 93. Have I mentioned how delighted I am to be back out on the sales floor, in air conditioning?
Closing shift at work again (1100 - 1830 today), and I’m opening tomorrow, which calls for being there at 0730. Ugh. At least it’s a short shift tomorrow, but my one in-person class does start tomorrow, and I have to do orientations for the two online classes within about the next two days.
Would be nice if I wasn’t spontaneously waking up way early on work days.
No donuts here but there is still a good bit of Boston Cream Cake out in the fridge. Sah-son is not helping me eat it
Sah-son starts school today too. He also needs to mow the lawn, I told him I do NOT want to be the neighbor everybody talks about for having a shaggy yard.
I talked with my friend finally and told her I wasn’t sure about the shower, she told me not to worry about it. To come if I can and it was okay if I didn’t. Then I found out she was helping to host a shower yesterday for her daughter’s friend who also got pregnant on purpose at the age of 16.
Maybe stupid runs in the water out where she lives.
My vote is dishwasher, with a dramatic death all over the floor, resulting in floor replacement.
Of course, it could just wait until it was in middle of the drying cycle and erupt into flames…
Howdy from the orifice. I’m here munchin’ on a sammich. Soon I shall head out again to local places. I have it all planned out to where my last place to be will put me not too far from da cave. I am genius!
MOOOOOOM my money is on the dishwasher. I still have the dishwasher, stove, and microwave that were installed when I moved in nineteen and a half years a go. So, anytime now I’m sure a major appliance replacement is due for da cave. ICK!
Lucky for me, I don’t use the dry cycle. As soon as the wash is done, I pop the door open and let everything dry naturally. It’s a bonus in the winter, adding moisture to the ambient air.
Five bucks on the dishwasher. They tend to be replaced at a 2:1 rate over the range. It just makes me glad that when I have to have an appliance replaced, I just call apartment management.
Back to irk today. It’s my busy week, so no loafin’ around.
