Let's build a Straight Dope Christmas Spotify list

A wonderful mellow jazz interpretation of The Who’s “Christmas” (from Tommy), sung by Aaron Burr (apologies if someone – maybe me! – already posted this):

I posted the original version by the Who, but not this great cover I just heard for the first time. Thanks!

Hmmm - let’s dig into my non-religious holiday list.

  1. She’s Right on Time - Billy Joel
  2. Song for a Winter’s Night - Sarah McLachlan
  3. A Long December - Counting Crows

Yeah, I tend to pick more mournful songs about Winter.

This year’s Honorable Mention (feel free to steal, or I’ll put it up next year): Happy Xmas (War is Over) cover by Josh Groban. I put up the original last year, because it’s the original. But if you like a well done version without Yoko, you may enjoy this!

Okay, I just bought Spotify premium for the month so I’m ready to submit:

Christmas Valentine (Ingrid Michaelson and Jason Mraz)

That Christmas Morning Feeling (cast of Spirited)

Good King Wenceslas (The Singers Unlimited)

It Doesn’t Have to Be That Way, Jim Croce

I have already submitted my three selections for this year. But from another thread, I found out about Warm In December- Duet version by FrostWind. I am a huge fan of Christmas music, listening to it all year, but especially in December. I love finding out about new music or old stuff that I somehow missed hearing about in my longish life.

The only Christmas songs that I do not like are The Christmas Shoes and Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer. I even enjoy hearing (once or twice) crude and vulgar songs like SNL’s Dick in a Box, and some of the songs with a lot of explicit language, although they don’t make my list of songs I want to hear very often.

I can’t recall hearing a version of Silver Bells that I don’t like. Likewise for Riu Riu Chiu.

Aside - I’m kind of worried about our OP, @Saint_Cad. He hasn’t been on in two weeks, and while this is a very busy time of year for many of us, it is a bit worrisome. Here’s hoping they’re spending some time dealing with IRL irritations (or joy to be hoped) rather than our irritations (… ), and not something more serious.

I’m worried too. He updated the list and posted that he had done so on November 29 in this thread. He hasn’t updated the list since then. The last entry on the Spotify playlist is still Moody Rudy.

Does anyone know him in real life?
