But her maiden name was Squibb.
Re “they’ve taken her”- was that specific comment ever explained? I mean, was there anything leading the parents to believe someone took the kid based on something previous? They could actually see the door of the hotel room, and didn’t see anyone go in or out?
Especially a guy with no face!
VCO3 says they did it. What more could you want?
Portuguese police are on the lookout for Dr. Caligari and his assistant Cesare.
I thought that was a reference to Susan Smith, although she actually blamed some African-American guy.
I do think the parents probably did it, and I’m not sure what the hell this drawing is going to accomplish even if I’m wrong.
The guy carrying the child was really, really quiet, with coffee-colored skin. He took the girl camping, obviously.
The newly-released sketch cannot be accurate, as the stranger does not have bushy hair.
Besides, wasn’t there a dingo sighted in the area?
VCO3, you might want to read this article.
This could be a big break in the case. Nowadays can’t they shoot an image like this with eigenvectors or something to bring out more details?
Wait, I am confused. Was the guy seen carrying a young girl out of the hotel or was a strange guy with no face seen loitering around the hotel?
And you write completely magical, made-up posts, hence the pittings.
Don’t try to bring facts to the lynch mob.
If I wanted to bring facts, I wouldn’t bring the Daily Mail.
Well, you’ve got to admit that the guy in the drawing closely resembles this guy wearing different clothes.
I truly don’t want to wade through the media swamp that is “Maddy”, but could anyone tell me why the parents cleaned the hotel room for an hour before noticing their daughter was missing? That baffles me.
I do recall another case in IL, years ago where the parents were accused and (I think) charged for the kidnap and killing of their daughter Jennifer(?) Dowaliby (sp?). Access to the child had been through a window screen. The parents, asleep in another part of the house, heard nothing. It came out later–much-that the true killer was caught and either confessed or was charged. This was a huge case when it came out–not international like Maddy, but definetly coast to coast. Her body was found in a dumpster near the home. I’m thinking it was early 90s.
I obviously suck at names, but does anyone else remember this case?
I bring it up, not as vindication for Maddy’s parents (since I don’t know if they killed her or not), but to remind us that these things do happen, and that it is often the wrong people accused at first.
In South Park after Butters’ mom put Butters in the car and pushed it into a river. She said, when asked by a reporter about what happened to him, ‘some Puerto Rican guy’ must have taken him.
And later on in the episode O.J. Simpson, the Ramseys, and Gary Condit all start a club to catch ‘some Puerto Rican guy’ who keeps committing these murders.
Well, since everyone else is ignoring this very important question from the OP, I will respond…
Probably because Portugal doesn’t have the death penalty, let alone the gas chamber?
Should they be tried in England you’d still be out of luck, as they don’t have the death penalty either. Or gas chambers.
Sorry to disappoint you. There’s always vigilante justice, though. Perhaps one of the European dopers would give you some tips.*
