Mr. K and I were laughing about this earlier today. It reminded us of another police sketch of a bank robber.
It was a picture of a guy with a full ski mask over his face. The “witnesses” had no clue what color his eyes were. Damned if we didn’t see it on every newscast for two days. Hilarious!

It’s not CLEAR to anyone except VC03 that the McCanns murdered their daughter. I’m fairly cynical but nothing has been presented by anyone that has convinced me that the parents are guilty of anything. In fact, keeping the case alive in the media, as they have done, runs contrary to reason. If they really murdered their daughter, they’d want the media to go away so that they can live in peace with their guilt.

I do recall another case in IL, years ago where the parents were accused and (I think) charged for the kidnap and killing of their daughter Jennifer(?) Dowaliby (sp?). Access to the child had been through a window screen. The parents, asleep in another part of the house, heard nothing. It came out later–much-that the true killer was caught and either confessed or was charged. This was a huge case when it came out–not international like Maddy, but definetly coast to coast. Her body was found in a dumpster near the home. I’m thinking it was early 90s.

I bring it up, not as vindication for Maddy’s parents (since I don’t know if they killed her or not), but to remind us that these things do happen, and that it is often the wrong people accused at first.

Obviously the man in the sketch was embarassed. He’s trying to save face.

I wouldn’t go that far. I am not a homicide detective, but I thought that many killers seek the notierety of the media; Munchausen-by proxy people seek the sympathy of health care workers etc. (Question of possible general interest: is murdering you child an extreme case of Munchausen’s by P?). So, IMO, if these parents did indeed kill their daughter (which I doubt), the media feeding frenzy would not necessarily dismay them.

Maybe they did kill their child, but everything I’ve seen of the case so far seeme to suggest that the Portuguese police have just made a total bollocks of the case and blurted out a series of random, poorly-supported accusations.

I thought UK doctors weren’t all that rich, unless they do the whole “Harley St” thing(?). I’d say they’re comfortably upper middle class, myself.
I’m a little surprised the doctors have been condemned to the gas chamber. I would have expected them to be beheaded.
No, no! See, the guy was just playing a joke. He was going to take away one child and wait to see if the parents noticed. In about a week, he was going to bring back Maddy along with another child, and wait to see if that got noticed, then take away one of the twins, and so on. What blew it for him was that the parents noticed right away that Maddy was missing. But when they sent him an email asking if he knew anything, he said he didn’t. And now he just wants people to stop talking about it.
While I don’t agree with calling the parents murderers at this point, I think this pitting is a valid one. I’m tired of hearing about Jon Benet Ramsey II: Electric Boogaloo. Yesterday, Early Morning dedicated 15 minutes to talking about how Mother McCann has finally shown some tears on camera. I felt like sticking my head in the oven.
That drawing belongs in a SNL sketch, along with the idea of showing it to the media with the hopes of it solving the case.

Portuguese officials conceded today that their primary suspect in the Madeleine McCann disappearance case has been a fugitive for over five months. Vice Chief Constable F. Silva announced Friday: “We are actively seeking the man we believe is responsible for the abduction. He was briefly in our custody in May, but unfortunately escaped. Ugh I wanted to rant about this but I can’t get into this case. That is shocking because I am the biggest ambulence chaser/lover of media frenzies/true crime enthusiast EVER. I’m just too exhausted after being obsessed with the JonBenet Ramsey case and reading EVERYTHING on it. It just gets so frustrating. Everyone was convinced it was the parents until they ran a DNA test on the blood in her underwear. Oops our bad! There is only so much missing white girl syndrome left in me.
