Let's get in the spirit! Who sings You're a Mean One?

Hauntingly performed by Jodi “Ariel” Benson on the Hollywood Christmas CD.

My mom insists that Anthony Hopkins did the narration on both the original and the Carrey. I knew it wasn’t him on the original, but rather “someone who starred in a lot of horror movies,” but I couldn’t remember who…thanks.

But Hopkins does a good job, relative to the other aspects of the live action, in staying close to the original.

(But NO ONE will ever repeat Thurl’s songs.)

Wow. Going over Thurl’s credits on the IMDB is taking a trip down memory lane.

  • The singing voice of Stewpot in South Pacific.
  • Paul Bunyan in the Disney cartoon.
  • The Captain in 101 Dalmatians
  • The Elder Spirit of Progress in Donald and the Wheel
  • A single sung line in The Music Man – “Provided you are CON-[sub]trar-y[/sub]”
  • The pig in Mary Poppins
  • The Russian Cat in The Aristocats
  • The singing voice in Snoopy Come Home – “No dogs a-[sub]loud[/sub]!”

And those are just the ones I recognize.

He also sang the incredible bass voice in “This Old House” by Rosemary Clooney in 1954. Million seller.
