Let's go eat at 1447582!

According to this Slashdot post, incorporated companies in Canada not given names are given automatic names that include long numbers. Apparently, there’s a Toronto Italian restaurant that the owners decided to just name after its parent company’s assigned number: 1447582.

The reason I’m posting this is because I find it funny to imagine how the reservations person must answer the phone: “Hi, thanks for calling 1447582! How can I help you?” (And how long do you think it takes 'em to get it right off the bat?)

Now that’s comedy!

It’d be even funnier if they said:

“Hi, thanks for calling 1447582 on 416-555-2468! How can I help you?”

When I worked in an Ontario land registry office where such companies were often referenced in various documents, it was common to substitute “numbered company” for the number in speech.

“Hi, welcome to Numbered Company. May I take your order?”
