Shhh! Don’t even talk about it. Just stare straight ahead and act as if nothing unusual is happening. If they know we’re watching they’ll pull a last minute trade - Helton for the Mets roster or something.
storyteller0910, I’d love to say I love this rant, but the fact that it exists just makes me sad. You have pretty much summed up my feelings on the matter of the Mets. I will watch tonight’s game with the appropriate amount of booze within reach.
AndyPolley–Got married in a Mets jersey (my wife wore one too)
I root for the Yankees, I don’t necessarily against the Mets, but this is amazing baseball theatre. I didn’t watch most of the meaningless Yanks-Rays game last night, I watched Mets-Cardinals. It was sort of like watching a History Channel show about the plague. And come to think of it, the crowd reactions were sorta similar.
The Cubs.
When you bear in mind that Luciano Pavarotti passed away a few weeks ago on Sept. 6th, 2007, this analogy is especially apt.
A multi-millionaire sports star has a hot wife? Well, knock me over with a feather.
As a Yankee fan who was 10 years old in 1977, I could never root against Willie Randolph. That being said… BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
That’s a multi-millionarie lifetime .230 hitter to you bub.
I posted my previous before I saw your post silenus but you’re right, although…
Frankly, I expected the Cubbies to choke two months ago. They didn’t. I expected them to choke last month. They didn’t. I expected them to choke this month, they haven’t, with 2 as the magic number, they could clinch (read: back into) a playoff spot TODAY (which would be sweet, cause I gots game 1 tickets) Dare I say it, the Cubbies could ACTUALLY go to the World Series this year. [sniff]
NL ball has been just that goofy this year.
I’m not sure they could take the Yanks though, and as much as I despise the bloated, overpaid mess they and Steinbugger are, they win games.
That’s MISTER Captain Clutchness is Next to Godliness to you
Seriously though, excellent rant.
I guess its a good thing we have a lot of people up there then. I did wonder what everyone else in the rest of the country was watching back in the fall of 2000…for about 2 seconds anyway.
I do have to agree with you though Biggirl, the only thing better than a Mets-Yankees World Series is a Giants-Jets Super Bowl. Thinking about that Super Bowl scenario with this years team, it would probably be pretty awful though. Most likely it would end with Eli breaking the record for most interceptions thrown in a Super Bowl but the Giants are a Pit topic for another day.
The last three notes is the hard part…
I just wanted to say that I actually heard you say this in a thick New York accent in my head.
According to all I do gotta pretty thick Bronx/Brooklyn thing gowin on. But that’s jus wut people say. Ain’t always true wut people say, dough.
I suppose this is not the time or the place to say that I am a Nationals fan.
storyteller, that’s one of the funniest rants I’ve read in a long time, and I’m a regular reader of Biggirl’s LJ, so that’s saying something.
This Nats fan gives it 11 on a scale of 10.
Think there’s a chance your team can go out and to the Phillies what they did to the Mets?
Swept by the Nationals at home.
The cult of Rey Ordonez is a strange and varied one. He may well be the most beloved baseball player ever that has a career batting average of .246 and 12 home runs.
Oh, and he number 0. All hail the Ordonez!
Poetry, man. Sheer fuckin’ poetry.
