Yankees or Mets? Personally I am a Yankees fan but my stepmom and my 3 brothers all like the Mets. It’s terrible, they wear Mets jerseys around the house and they make me watch Mets games and everything! On a related note what about the Yankees doing so horribly lately? (At least they won last night!) And even if you’re not from Yankee/Met country if you like baseball who would you like to see a world series between?
No. Like most diehard Yankee fans, I want to see the Mets lose, lose, lose. I’ll gladly pass up the satisfaction of a subway series to see them lose 120 games in a season again.
In any event, shimmery, you have my sympathies for your situation. Maybe you could file a harrassment suit against your family, claiming that they are creating a hostile fan environment?

Being a Braves fan, If there was a NYY/NYM World Series, I’d hope for a meteor to crash into the stadium.
I always cheer for whichever team is playing against the Yankees. Damn Yankees.
When I rank my favourite baseball teams, it generally looks something like this:
- PHILLIES
… - Indians
- Braves
- Mets
- Yankees
But, the distance between 28-30 is almost negligible.
That’s kind of how I felt in '86 (minus the loads of gory deaths, of course) when the Mets played the Red Sox. Great, exciting series, but no one to root for.

There are some assumtions being make by the OP. Let’s clear them up.
[ul]
*Yankees are going to be taken down by Oakland
*St Louis will kill Braves hopes
*Giants will prevail over Mets
*White Sox will fade with a fight to Seattle
[/ul]
So there, nah nah nah
Yankees, Yankees, Yankees!
The Mets are OK, in a sort of underdog, wild card, better than nothing sort of way. Piazza’s great, no argument.
I think what we saw at the end of this season is the mighty Yankees starting to show their age. I’m afraid there’s big changes coming this off-season and next spring. If I may predict:
- The great David Cone will be released.
- Tino Martinez will be traded
- Jeff Nelson will be gone
- Denny Naegle will be traded for pitching
- Yanks will sign Mike Mussina
- We’ll see a couple of Baby Bombers in the starting line-up next year: Nick Johnson, Alfonso Soriano, maybe Ted Lilly.
- The Yanks are going to make a trade for a veteran left fielder. We’ll also see O’Neil back for one more year, with a rookie replacement in the wings.
World Series: I’d like Yankees-Mets or Yankees-Giants.
Well let’s see … if the Yankees make it to the World Series then it means they’ve taken out my team (Mariners) along the way, so I can’t really root for the Yankees to make the series. However, I do hope the Yankees beat Oakland, because we’ve done better this season against the Yankees than we have against Oakland. That’s assuming the M’s don’t blow this 2-0 lead thing they’ve got going.
I’d love to see the Mariners make it to the World Series. I haven’t followed the NL enough this year to know who to pick to play them. I’ll say Mets just to keep this post somewhat related to the topic.
If there were a Yankee-Met series, I would start buying some books by Derek Humphry.
A Seattle - St. Louis series would be delightfully weird. The M’s do appear to be a tough team in the AL.
Ha! The funniest thing I’ve read today. Thanks for the laugh, BobT.
Ahhh, my Giants are losing! This is terrible! Now they have to go to New York and win two!
Fortunately, they can do this. ::: crossing fingers and hopping up and down :::
BTW, I laugh at the Braves! Ha ha ha hahahahahah! You are losing, and I laugh at you!
Giants play-by-play: JT Snow hit a three-run homer just now (like a minute after I made that last post) and the game is tied in the bottom of the ninth! My Giants will win, my finger crossing and jumping up and down worked!
Okay, that is the last bit of Giants play-by-play for the day. Maybe.
I’m going to have to take exception to this one. I’ll go along with all the others, but I cringe to think of what will happen to my beloved Orioles if Moose leaves, especially to the evil Hated Yanks.
Also, the Birdman’s World Series prediction (which I’m sure I will eat soon): Giants over Mariners in seven (and that’s saying something; after the Orioles, the Mariners are my favorite team [I’m a diehard American League man until the day I die]).
I like this sentence. Sure, it’s a little redundant, but it really gets the point across.
I pick the Giants to beat someone. I originally picked the White Sox but it doesn’t look like that’s gonna happen, and the Giants will make the World Series, and they will win, I swear I swear I swear. I’m a diehard Giants fan until the day I die. And this has nothing to do with the new ballpark! Stupid bandwagon jumpers with their cell phones and corporate seats. Grrr…
Isn’t Neagle a free agent at the end of the season?
I haven’t heard that the Yankees are interested in Mussina. He is expected to choose among Baltimore, Cleveland, and Philadelphia.
The Yankees have a lot of money, but their payroll would get way out of hand with Mussina in it. The Yankees will need to get replacements for O’Neil and Martinez. Those guys are through.
I doubt Jose Canseco will be hanging around on the team next year. If he is, I’ll be happy as I have made my feelings about the Yankees known before in this thread.
Upon further reflection, if suicide isn’t a viable option, I would root for the Mets in a Yankees-Mets Series. If only because it would piss off Steinbrenner to no end.
If you want it to collide with either Shea or Yankee Stadium, then you will need a meteorite, not a meteor.
But if you insist on using the meteor, the best you can hope for is an atmospheric detonation in the ballpark’s vicinity. The resulting shockwave should totally annihilate the structure.
If you don’t have a particular resentment against the Mets or Yanks, and you will focus your dissatisfaction stemming from a hypothetical–and likely, knowing their track record–early Braves elimination, then I recommend earthquake-inducing measures. Assuming we have a Bay Area Series–and Barry Bonds will make sure the Giants get there, you can get a military commando, steal a non-nuclear missile and launch it from Alcatraz into San Andreas Fault. I guarantee you at least an 8 pointer on the Richter scale plus a 30-foot tsunami.
Of course, you could always do an Internet search, learn how to make a thermonuclear bomb and remote-detonate it from the comfort of your living room while watching it all live on your big screen TV. Now, if that doesn’t adequately placate your destructive thirsts I can’t imagine what will.
Montfort, being a Phillies’ fan, what do you have against my beloved Indians? The Phils and the Tribe only play each other during Grapefruit League games in March.
Put me down for rooting for anybody but the NYYankees. I’m hoping either the White Sox or Seattle wins the World Series. The Sox because it would make a good friend of mine happy, and Seattle because Seattle hasn’t had a champion team since the 1979 Sonics.
Since my Angels, true to form, got stomped like a narc at a biker rally AGAIN this season, I can only hope that Seattle chokes.
But did you see my boy Jimmy Edmonds for St. Louis? He can really swing it, and it just breaks my heart that he couldn’t win a ring in CA…

I’ve read in the NY Times that the Yanks are interested in Mussina. You’re right, the payroll will go throught the roof if they sign him, Jeter, and Rivera. That’s why there’s probably going to be a salary dump this winter. Martinez and Cone will go. I’m not sure about Naegle’s status, I know the papers are rumbling that his recent skid has hurt his negotiations with the Yanks. I think they’ll keep O’Neil out of loyalty and the fact that they need decent outfielders. Maybe Brosius will be dealt. Should be interesting.
Too bad about the Birds this year. I had the pleasure of walking around Camden Yards off-season, I’d love to catch a game there. What’s up with Cal, is he coming back in 2001? Do the fans want him back?
