quasar, you’re moderately scary.
How about that catch he made over his shoulder? And as for swinging - he would be so much better if he didn’t strike out so much. I’m amazed that he managed a .295 batting average with 167 strike outs this year - IIRC that’s more than any other Cardinal ever. If he only learned some patience at the plate and got some walks occasionally (103 walks this year) he would be so much more valuable batting in front of McGwire next year.
Mostly, it has to do with having a few ex-girlfriends from Ohio, and they were die-hard Tribe fans. I just don’t like them.
Hey, so far I am 1:4 with WhiteSox being taken down by Seattle, awaiting rest of the results.

If the Giants do manage to win this series, and the next, every spoerts reporter in the nation will be screaming, “The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant!”
Yeah, except that isn’t the pennant. It’s the…NLDS Championship or something dumb. They have to finish off the Mets and then beat the Cardinals to win the pennant.
Besides, it should be illegal for anyone but Russ Hodges to say “the Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant!” And since he’s dead, I would not be against repeated playing of that clip.
Pit Moment: WTF was Shawn Estes thinking in the third inning yesterday? First it looks like he’s broken up an inning-ending double play and there are runners at first and second with one out - but cause he is such an idiot, he didn’t slide into second, he crashed into it, turning his ankle. And then, to really prove what a complete dumbass he is, he got up and hopped around in the infield in pain - without calling time out! Hi, the second baseman is allowed to tag you when you walk (or hop) away from the base, you moron!
BTW, stupid A’s! You’re supposed to beat the Yankees. Not lose, win.
Kyla, the redundancy was deliberate, and effective obviously
Also, I’ve changed my mind. I don’t think the Giants are going to pull it out. However, I think the Cardinals have a shot. They looked really good against the Braves today.
Oh, also: Go A’s. Dammit. If the Yankees win, much as it pains me to say, they’ll probably beat the Mariners in the CS.
All the talk of a subway series (boy, wouldn’t that be great, though?) reminded me of a milestone I heard mentioned on the local news a day or two ago.
Thursday (I think) was the 45th anniversary of the day the Brooklyn Dodgers won their one and only World Series title, beating the hated Yankees after so many previous tries.
Of course this was all before my time, but the news made me feel both deeply happy and sad for Dem Bums, nonetheless.
Maybe the Yankees could unload Clemens to lower the payroll? The only rocket he reminds me of it Apollo 13. Its no coincidence that both of our losses came with him on the mound. Does anyone agree or am I just too bitter because of all his years with the Sox and giving up Wells to get him?
Christ, could Bonds be any lamer? He left a small village on the basepads tonight. And Kent strikes out on 3 pitches and never takes the bat off his shoulders!
Go Cards!!!
i think the real question is “a’s or giants?”
So… you guys mostly hate the Yankees? I hope they beat the A’s tonight (Last night was embarrassing!), but if they have to lose to someone, I wouldn’t mind it being the Mariners. I didn’t like them that much with Griffey but now, I don’t know…there’s just something so likeable about them. Also I hope the Yanks trade Clemens - his only real value is that some batters are intimidated by him, but now I think everyone realizes that he sucks. I hope they don’t trade Brosius though.
If this is a baseball thread, then I must add…
Go Cubs.
2001 is so our year.
2 New York teams advancing! Darn it!Darn it!Darn it!Darn it!Darn it!Darn it!Darn it!Darn it!Darn it!Darn it!Darn it!
Clemens=overated (see what i said about him in this thread).
Now that Torre brought in Hernandez for relief, who’s going to pitch Game 1 one Tuesday? Clemens on three days rest again? Hernandez on two? My guess is Cone, with Naegle and Gooden for long relief. Then Clemens, Petitte, Hernandez.
Nope, Naegle will pitch Game 1. Probably Hernandez in Game 2.
I doubt Torre will be starting any of his pitchers on 3 days rest unless it’s an emergency as Clemens and Pettitte were ineffective against Oakland on short rest.
Unfortunately, Gil Heredia was ineffective no matter how much rest he was given.
You’re right, BobT. I just read it’ll be Naegle. Guess I was being sentimental regarding Cone.
Hopefully Petitte will go in Game 3, so he’ll be available for a Game 7.
sigh The Yankees have advanced to the AL championship series yet again. I think I’ll go soak my head in the toilet bowl for a while.

Q. What’s the definition of a moral dilemma?
A. The Red Sox playing against the Cubs in the World Series.
BobT, I would say the same about Clemens.
