Let's have some 'Fierce Creatures' love

I know it wasn’t as adored as the previous movie * A Fish Called Wanda* but I like this one better. There are some brilliantly funny moments in it. Fierce Creatures is almost a spiritual sequel, if not a direct one, and it’s one of my all-time favorite movies. There must be other people out there who love it!

John Cleese is hilariously funny and Michael Palin is not to be borne. They play off each other so well it has me in stitches.

Favorite quotes:

His delivery on that one is fantastic.

I’m giggling just reading these freakin quotes. So, come on! I can’t be the only one?

I remember seeing it when it was first released. I had loved Wanda, and hoped that Creatures would be as good…I found it funny, but not on Wanda’s level.

I don’t think I’ve seen Creatures again since then.

My favorite part was Jamie Lee Curtis having a spiritual encounter with the gorilla. “We had a moment!

Nowhere near Wanda, and somehow the madcap antics just didn’t work during the dead body/changeover scene, but some funny moments. And I loved Rollo calling Willah “Wanda” near the end. And I can’t see meerkats without thinking of them as “the piranhas of the desert”.

My favorite bits were the various sequences of JLC finding JC in increasingly bizarre “sexual” situations. Especially in the hotel room with the sheep.

“That was a sheep!” I’d forgotten about that. And then they see the huge spider and Vince is all “That’s probably what was making the bleating noise!”

The staff’s reaction to Rollo’s execution and burial of the animals he’s given was funny, and the reveal about them later.

Trivial complaint but I think I’d have liked it better if Cleese hadn’t had a moustache. Somehow it makes him less believable as somebody Jamie Lee Curtis would be attracted to, but I totally bought her falling for him in Wanda.

I liked it, but no where near as much as AFCW.

My wife and I love this movie and think it is better than Fish Called Wanda.

“I’m feeling…suicidal!”

“How much do you think the monkey makes? Eh? Not a lot! A couple of bananas!”

Am I right that no wide-screen DVD was ever released for this movie? One of the only movies I know that was only released VHS style(full screen/panscan)

Really? I’ll check my DVD at home, because 99.9% of the DVDs we have bought have been wide screen.

“Is it a dare? Do you owe him money?”

Kevin Kline riding the animatronic panda.

“He must be having one of his Black Moods!”

Good stuff in this movie. I own it on VHS, but unfortunately, no longer own a VCR to watch it on.

Uh, yeah, all DVD’s are wide-screen.* It’s what makes Fierce Creatures so weird. It only exists in a full screen version, if I’m right.
*I know they do/did make full screen DVD’s, but I’ve never bought one and don’t know many people who do.

Oh, great.

There is a widescreen…tape. Real nice.

Widescreen tape.

By the way, I saw this movie in the theater. Did anyone else?

Agreed. But I’ve always found the fact that one of the two young keepers that kept getting caught with him was his RL daughter a bit…weird. ish. Perfectly harmless really, but it just seems like I would feel slightly awkward playing that role if I were in a similar situation.

Ha! If only. My copy of Spiderman 2 is definitely full-screen. I got scolded for this. I don’t care. I don’t like Spidey anyway (though 2 was tolerable).

I liked the fact that he brought over pretty much all of the Wanda cast. In addition to the principals he brought the actress who played Archie’s wife (Rollo’s secretary), the jewel thief (a groundskeeper), the judge (a park employee) and others.

I’d love to see them bring this cast together again. This time go ahead and start with Cleese and Curtis as a couple so that you don’t have to work out the romance. Perhaps Palin and Kline could be a couple as well (“I love watching your ass move when you walk!”).

I thought it was WAY better than AFCW, personally. I’ve still got a VHS in my crafting room, and it’s one of my favorite tapes. I haven’t managed to get a DVD of it yet, but I really should.

“He’s talking to himself and I’M the lunatic?!”

I’ve bought several.

Never on purpose, of course.

It’s streaming on Netflix! I will have to watch it again someday soon. I saw this in the theater. It’s definitely a laugh until you snort or cry or perhaps both movie for me.
