I think Bill Clinton was for it, and believe it or not, I think George was for it, or didn’t care. Now you believe Obama is for it, but you know, can’t actually do anything.

At some point, it’s time for action. It’s not enough to have a feeling they don’t really hate you. I don’t blame Obama for saying or not saying whatever it takes to get elected, but very soon it will be time to see some action.

I don’t want to sit here for four years hearing people say, “he can’t do anything now! He won’t get reelected!” Then fours years later hearing “he can’t do anything now, you have to wait until the end of his term!” Then nothing happening and all the same people start saying “don’t expect this new candidate to do or say anything, he won’t get eleeeeeeeected!”

At some point you have to shit or get off the pot.

Essentially, Lincoln saw the abolition of slavery not as an end in itself but as a potential means of ending the rebellion and reuniting the country. In other words - if he didn’t need to abolish slavery to win the war, he saw no reason to do it.

I’m sorry, no. I have ho idea why you would believe Lincoln saw no moral compunction to abolish slavery.

In fact he actively prevented Union generals from declaring emancipation for slaves of territory they’d conquered in the early years of the struggle. Prior to the war he advocated not the abolition, but the limitation, of slavery to the states where it already existed and then leaving well enough alone. At the war’s end he wasn’t in favor of universal suffrage but extending it only to “intelligent” Blacks and those who had helped the Union in some extraordinary way.

You’re gong to win, Lev. The trend lines are unmistakable. This is a set-back, nothing more, the game is not over, the diva has not sung. Prejudice against gay people is already socially unacceptable. Even such a person who speaks out against gay marriage, nine times out of ten they feel compelled to make clear that they have nothing against being gay, just that they oppose this or that, “marriage” being the numero-uno bugbear.

Is that merely hypocrisy? In many cases, I’m sure it is, but hypocrisy tells you something too. It tells you that the hypocrite is compelled to recognize a standard he would prefer not to, because he has no choice.

You don’t trust your friends, it appears, you fear that your agenda will be constantly shuffled into the background. Oddly, this is precisely what happened to your enemies! The Republicans used “the gay agenda” to fire up their base for years (along with abortion, and others) and they sold precisely that line of shit. “Next year, next election” they would say, while hitting them up for money and manpower.

And it didn’t work, they lost, overall, and are continuing to lose everyday. Stay calm, stay focused, keep on keepin’ on. Trust your friend and allies, put your shoulder to their wheel, and they will put their shoulder to yours. Perhaps a fool trusts too easily, but the bigger fool trusts not at all.
