I agree with the sentiment that the ads should be beneath the “reply now” button. That would also put them beneath the page count button, which means I can then navigate through multi-page threads without having to dodge the ads just to do so.
Amen brother/sister. I’m always astounded by how much that dumb idea spread like wildfire. I can’t imagine a scenario where a perceived difference of one dollar would compensate the insult and inconvenience created by that practice. I honestly expected better from the SDMB.
Regarding the ads, don’t like them, will never see them, but could be worse. They are generally tolerated because they are so unobtrusive. I’d never pay for a site with banner ads for instance.
I have to upgrade Firefox before I download adblock, and I’m too damned tired to mess with that tonight.
Why can’t they put the ads at the top of the page, under the logo, like EVERY OTHER SITE does?

I didn’t mind the ads so much as the content. Every fucking single ad I saw was a con-man come-on. Ads put out by criminals, for criminal wanna-bes. I.e., selling mailing lists and phone lists. What honest person responds to these things? What honest person would put this shit out?
I really wouldn’t mind if they had been for, say, the latest sale at Sears, or Best Buy, or whatever. But what I saw disgusted me.
So I’ve ad-blocked’em. I gave 'em a fair shake, they didn’t live up, and now I don’t see’em any more.

Add my vote to the “DESTROY THE FUCKING GODDAMN ADS” VOTE, i paid my dues partially for the reason that we would NOT be subjected to this SHIT, i can understand guests getting the ads, but *paid members (charter or otherwise) should NOT be subjected to frelling adverts, i don’t care how “unobtrusive” they are, they ARE NOT welcome

It might be early in the year to start with the “I’m not renewing” stuff, but I’ll kick it off: There is no way I’m paying money to be on a message board with ads. Not a chance.
I no more read the ads than I read the honking trademark crap at the bottom of each page. No prob…it just filters out. But then this wouldn’t be the Dope if everybody didn’t fly off the handle bitching and moaning about some insignificant thing that got their knickers in a twist.
