Let's talk about Myspace

And very useful too. I love being able to put online names to faces.

I use myspace to keep up with friends and also to meet girls. I’m one of those “message-random-pretty-girl-I-don’t-know” guys, although I don’t think I act creepy or anything. I do feel bad because I know some girls hate getting random messages from guys, but it’s sometimes hard to figure out whether or not someone would be receptive to a random message.

I’d guess about 1 out of 5 of my messages will get a response, and of those who respond I’ll end up meeting maybe 1 out of 3. I think I’ve met about a dozen girls through facebook and myspace since I’ve started using the sites.

Here is Myspace. I’m awaiting approval to join the illustrious SDMB myspace group.

Hmm, by those numbers I gave it must mean I’ve sent something like 180 random messages to people, which seems way too high. Maybe I should add “not too hot at math or estimating” to my profile…

I hope that this doesn’t kill this thread, but I felt that I had to point out that all of the webcam-whore/band spam that I got was in the first day or 2 of me signing up. I’ve been on for about a week now and haven’t gotten anymore since then. I guess that they know who’s signed up recently.

I came across this thread late, but I wanted to mention that there is an option to check so that bands can’t send you invites - I believe it’s under your account options/preferences. I’m at work, so I can’t check for the link, but I have the option turned on.
As far as webcam emails go, there is also a link to report spam on myspace (again, I don’t know it offhand!) so you might try that and see if that cuts down on all the “hot and lonely girls who just want to have fun.”
