Let's talk about our personal creative projects here

Those pictures are amazing! I wish my Alaska photos were half as cool as those.

Thank you!

Had a 50/50 chance. Katmai is a wonderful place; did you make it to the Valley of 10,000 Smokes?

No, didn’t have the chance. I was only there two days and I wanted to concentrate on getting shots of the bears at the falls.

This doesn’t have the latest photos, but here are some of my quilts. I will have to update it when I get home!

We spent several days at Katmai Lodge, where the bears wander through at will and absolutely have the right of way. But you can only look at them gorging on fish for just so long, so we opted to ride the 4WD bus out to the Valley rim and hiked down into it. It’s surreal. I have a gorgeous early morning photo of Katmai Lake somewhere, all in shades of blue, gray and purple.

I was tent-camping in the campground, which is notionally protected by an electric fence.

Wow, nice work! I like Quilt 01, with the big flowers. My wife’s aunt was quite a quilter; she tended to specialize in stylized cats, and her work was absolutely perfect in every respect.

Not to say, purrfect?! Thank you for your kind comment.

I added my latest… my favorite here:

Beautiful! How do you get close enough? Or do you have really fabulous telephoto lenses? In my experience with telephoto lenses, they aren’t as clearly focused as closer ones, but mine was el cheapo, so.

Yikes, gigi! That’s so complex! Love those chickens though. You do amazing work.

Right now I’m writing a novel. It’s actually more like “writing” a novel, since I’m in my first year of university and have a few assignments to do.

I always take a high-dollar supertelephoto lens with me when I go out west, something along the lines of a 300 2.8, 500 f4 or 600 f4. But a lot of the shots are very close and those are usually from the road in Yellowstone or Grand Teton.

That is so fun. Love it.

Well, I’m really looking forward to one of my next house projects.

My wife saw a beautiful solid wood door on a house, and asked if we could get one like it. Sure, said I, if you want to spend a grand…so that was that.

But I got to thinking. We have an old 3-light door from the 50s. I can just laminate a piece of 1/4 finish plywood to it. I’ll cover the top and bottom lights, leave the middle (centered) one. I can cut more of same in to strips and attach that to create the illusion of panels. I’ll stain it black to match the other hardware on the front of the house and BAM.

It’s going to be cool.

Another: “wow, those are such a wonderful combo of whimsy and intricate skilful technique” here for Gigi’s quilts.

:o You are all very sweet! That chicken one is for an old friend who runs an informal hospice for old and infirm chickens. The grapes fabric doesn’t really match but it’s in there for “Beaky” who is happy as long as he gets his grapes!!
